Outlast DFS Site and Mobile App Review

outlast dfs review

The US isn’t short of great Daily Fantasy Sports sites. Gone are the days of DraftKings and FanDuel being the only shows in town, with plenty of unique and original alternatives available in states around the country.

Outlast is the latest addition to the ranks. The platform is styled as an ultra-simple, beginner-friendly DFS option, in contrast to the wide range of more complex games offered by its competitors. It’s already up and running in around 22 states, with that number only likely to increase over time.

We love DFS here at WSN.com, especially the different twists and innovations that new sites come up with, so we were keen to try out Outlast for ourselves. Our experts have conducted a comprehensive review of the platform, and we’ve got the verdict for you right here.

We cover everything Outlast has to offer, from the different types of games through to the bonuses for new players, the software, the banking options, availability, customer support, and much more. We also compare Outlast to the other main DFS options in the United States, to help you decide which one is best for you.

If you decide to sign up, we’ve even got an exclusive promo code for you, wsn_promo, which will unlock a special welcome bonus.

Outlast is a refreshing addition to the DFS options. It’s easy to understand and easy to appreciate, and we had a lot of fun getting to know it. Let’s find out why.

Outlast at a Glance

Here’s your beginner’s guide to Outlast, right off the bat.

  • Outlast was founded by former Carolina Panthers receiver Brenton Bersin and a professional Operations Analyst named Ehimere Etomi, and launched in 2021.

  • The platform is currently available in at least 22 states, and you need to be physically located in a legal state to play a real money game.

  • You can play on Outcast via mobile app only, with no desktop site.

  • Outlast offers games involving 6 sports: NFL, NBA, NHL, MLB, soccer, and golf.

  • There are three main game formats: Over/Under, Survivor Play, and Purse

  • The games at Outlast are specially designed with simplicity in mind, and the platform is definitely among the easiest DFS sites to use.

Where is Outlast Legal?

How Does DFS at Outlast Work?

The games at Outlast are exceptionally simple. Outlast’s founders have been explicit in their intentions for the platform: they wanted to create an alternative DFS site for everyone who finds the dominant options too confusing, intense, or just time-consuming.

Outlast is designed to be open and accessible to beginners and casual sports fans. You won’t need a crazy in-depth knowledge of teams or players to participate, or need to invest a lot of time and energy.

That said, the games are also appealing to more experienced DFs players, sports fans, or sports bettors since they offer a straightforward alternative to other DFS options.

The games at Outlast come in three main categories, and we’re covering them all below.

Outlast Over/Under

As you might have guessed, the first game is based on the classic sports bets known as “Totals” or “Over/Unders”.

In order to win an Over/Under game at Outcast, you need to make at least three correct predictions in a row, based on the stats of a player in an upcoming game. There are Over/Under games available for all the sports on Outcast.

Here’s how the format works.

First up, you need to pick a sport. Select your entry fee, and choose your Over/Under predictions based on players’ performances in the upcoming round of games.

There are Over/Unders available for all kinds of categories, similar to what you’d find at a real money sportsbook. Here are some examples:

  • In NBA, Over/Under on total points scored OR 3-pointers OR rebounds

  • In NFL, Over/Under on QB passing yards OR passing TDs OR intercepts

  • In NHL, Over/Under on goals OR assists

There are tons of options for each sport, and Outlast adds new categories from time to time too. Basically, anything you think you can predict about a player’s performance – whether offensive, defensive, creative, destructive – chances are you’ll find an Over/Under market for it at Outlast.

If you get three correct picks you win, earning 6x your entry fee.

At that point, you have two choices. You can either claim your winnings and the contest ends, or keep playing. If you choose to continue, you need to make another two consecutive correct picks to win again, earning 20x your entry fee.

Again, you can cash out or keep going. If you continue and make two more correct picks (making 7 in total), you’ll win the max prize of 50x your entry fee.

If any of your picks are wrong at any stage, you lose your entry fee (and any potential winnings you’ve built up) and the contest is over.

There’s one other more lucrative option too. If you elect to make all your 7 picks up front, rather than deciding whether to continue when you reach each milestone, you’ll win 80x your entry if you’re correct.

Survivor Pool

Survivor Pool games are similar, except you are playing against other DFS players directly rather than against Outcast or “the house”. You can play public Pool contests against strangers, or create your own private pools.

You need to make two picks per day, in the exact same format as the Over/Under contests described above. If any of your picks is incorrect, you are out of the contest and you lose your entry fee. If your picks are correct, you remain alive in the contest and qualify for the next day, when you make another two picks and so on.

If you stay alive long enough, you win.

There are three different Survivor Pool formats to choose from, which determine how long you need to stay alive to win money.

  • Winner Takes All – The contest continues until there is just one person left, who wins all the money.

  • 50/50 – The top half of the player pool get their entry fee back, while the overall winner gets the rest of the money.

  • Tiered – A traditional payout structure in descending order, with the winner receiving the largest share and so on.

To enter a pool, you’ll need to choose your entry free, pool size, and the format. There are a wide range of options available, and you can also create your own private leagues to play with your friends.

With Survivor Pools, it’s important to be aware that the contests can last for an extended period of time, as long as the participants stay alive. If you forget to make your selection on any day you get automatically eliminated.

Like Over/Under contests, Pools are available for all the sports on Outlast.

Purse

Outlast Purse contests are only available for PGA Tour golf tournaments. They are the only sport-exclusive contest offered by Outlast.

Like with Pools, you can choose whether to play in a public contest or create your own and invite your friends.

The contest is simple. Every participant selects 10 players from the field of a single golf tournament. When the tournament ends, the real-life prize money of every player in your team is added together. The team with the most money wins the contest and the money.

Up to 5,000 people can enter every contest, and if you create your own you can choose the entry fee and structure.

We should also mention that Outlast has teased some additions to the platform that are expected for the future, including a free play contest called Red Zone and the addition of eSports games.

Outlast Software and Mobile App

Outlast is a mobile-only DFS platform. To play, you’ll need to download an app for your phone or mobile device. It’s available on both iOS and Android phones, from the App Store and Google Play Store.

Outlast does have a desktop site, but it just gives information about the company, the contests, and how to download the app. You’ll find links for both technologies there too.

We were very impressed by the app on the whole. With any brand new type of game there is going to be a learning curve, and Outlast does a great job of making it as easy as possible to sign up and start playing. The built in prompts and guides help you through the process, and the format of every game is actually very simple once you get the hang of them.

A menu at the top of the screen shows the different sports available. There are useful tools to help you sort through the options within the contests too, like a filter for the different types of props. It means you can easily identify the types of picks you want to make, and disregard others.

You can choose to play in Easy or Pro mode. The former features a simplified interface that makes it easier for beginners. Pro mode basically just shows more information on the screen, which might be overwhelming if you’re not used to the games.

The seven-step counter at the bottom of the screen, which helps you keep track of the progress of your Over/Under contests, is a nice touch too.

Software and App Highlights

  • Outlast does a great job of walking you through the contests and making the platform beginner-friendly. The choice between Easy and Pro mode helps with this too.
  • Entering contests is simple and logical, and so is keeping track of your progress via the “Contest Entries” section.
  • We found both signing up and depositing money very smoothly.

Things to Improve

  • There’s no desktop option to play Outlast for now, which might disappoint some people.

Bonuses and Deals at Outlast

Just about all DFS sites use special bonuses and promotions to encourage people to sign up and play their games, and Outlast is no different.

There are two main promotions running at Outcast for now: a welcome offer and a referral program.

Welcome Bonus – 100% Deposit Match

All brand new players are eligible for the Outlast welcome bonus, which you can trigger by using the code wsn_promo when you create your account. Once you make a deposit and verify your identity (more on that later), you’ll receive a 100% boost up to a value of $200.

The bonus doesn’t come in cash but in EXTRA PTS. You can see both your regular balance and EXTRA PTS balance side by side at the top of the screen.

EXTRA PTS are similar to bonus cash at other sites. You can enter contests using your regular balance or EXTRA PTS, but you need to place bets totaling your entire first deposit in regular cash before you can make any withdrawals. This is basically a way of attaching wagering requirements to the bonus.

Refer-a-Friend

Every player at Outlast gets their own unique code, which can be shared with other people. If your friend types in your code when they sign up, both you and they will receive $25 in EXTRA PTS once they make their first deposit.

Both users also need to be verified to qualify.

Outlast also runs other promos from time to time, including the ability to win Free Play vouchers which let you enter real money contests for free.

Sports You Can Play on at Outlast

Compared with other DFS sites, Outlast offers contests on a fairly modest range of sports. That said, this arguably makes sense for the site’s USP, which is partly about offering a simple and limited range of DFS contests in contrast to the ever expanding offers elsewhere.

The six core sports at Outlast are likely to be what the majority of players are looking for anyway. But, if you want to play games based the likes of tennis or boxing you won’t find them at Outlast.

The platform has indicated that eSports is likely to be the next addition to the catalog, with the possibility of further expansion down the line.

Below is the full list of sports:

  • Football
  • Basketball
  • Hockey
  • Baseball
  • Soccer
  • Golf

Options for Deposits and Withdrawals

The banking options at Outlast are pretty good, although still somewhat limited at this early stage. The good news is that the methods that are supported are some of the most popular ways to transfer money at DFS sites.

Users can choose between credit cards, ACH transfer, and Skrill to deposit, and can make withdrawals via both Skrill and ACH Transfer. Outlast doesn’t charge any processing fees, and all deposits happen instantly.

During our Outlast review, all the methods worked more or less exactly as described. Making a deposit or requesting a withdrawal is very simple, and you’ll find all the instructions in the cashier section of the app.

The only slight complication is that you’ll need to provide a completed W9 form for tax purposes if you cash out more than $600 in a year. It’s a slight inconvenience, but it does show that Outlast is taking its legal responsibilities seriously.

Signup and Registration

DFS sites are legally available in the majority of US states these days and whichever platform you choose, signing up has become extremely simple. Downloading the Outlast app and registering a new account should only take you a couple of minutes tops.

You need to fill out a registration form with some basic info. Here’s what you’ll need to provide:

  • Name
  • Date of Birth
  • Address
  • Username
  • Password
  • Email Address

There’s also a space to type in an Outlast promo code during the registration process. Don’t forget to use our exclusive code wsn_promo to unlock your welcome bonus.

To get full access to your Outlast account – including withdrawing your winnings – you’ll also need to verify your identity. You can do this any time after signing up, but it’s worth getting it out of the way ASAP.

You’ll need to send Outlast a copy of some personal documentation, like your passport or driver’s license. The team will make sure it matches the details of your account and complete the verification.

Security and Gaming License

As a Daily Fantasy Sports site, Outlast does not need a gaming license in the way a sportsbook does. Instead, the platform simply needs to conform to the laws and regulations that enable DFS sites to operate in each state.

We are very happy with the general site security at Outlast. The platform is owned and operated by Let It Ride Sports, a company registered in North Carolina. All the transactions performed on Outlast are protected and the company verifies the identity of all its users before it can fully participate in real money games.

Outlast is available in 22 states, with more on the way, and has enjoyed a smooth run so far, with no legal or security issues.

Customer Support

Outlast has several avenues of support if you run into any issues. This is something we always like to see – the more info and resources the better.

First up, there’s an FAQ section that covers all the basics about how the site works. This is a good place to start if you’re looking for clarity about some aspects of the platform, from banking to bonuses. There are also separate pages explaining each of the different contest formats.

If you want to get in touch with Outlast directly, you have a couple of options.

There is a live chat button available on both the app and the desktop site, which is open from 8 am to midnight EST. Within those hours, this is probably the best method.

Alternatively, you can call Outlast at 843-806-2708 or email them via the form on the platform. In our experience, the support staff are very helpful and can help you figure out your problem instantly.

Things Outlast is Doing Right

Outlast is an excellent addition to the Daily Fantasy Sports sites available in the US. The company has a clear sense of what it wants to be – a pared-back and beginner-friendly way to play DFS – and it executes it very well.

Here are our highlights:

  • First and foremost, Outlast is a great entry point into DFS. It’s the perfect platform for anyone who has ever had a casual glance around DraftKings or FanDuel and felt like they were in over their head. Outlast takes a small number of games, simplifies them and makes them accessible for everyone.
  • The games are also really fun. They are true to the spirit of fantasy sports, and the concept of just making three correct picks to become a winner works very well. The stick-or-twist element is great too, giving players control over how they want to use Outlast.
  • The app is very well designed. We like having both the simplified Easy mode as well as the more detailed Pro mode. The 7-step ladder which shows the progress of your contests is nice too. All in all, Outlast’s software really enhances the experience.
  • The bonuses and promotions are great, and it looks like there are more in store down the line. Refer friend programs are a natural fit for social apps like Outcast, and the 100% welcome bonus is the perfect way to kick off your experience. Don’t forget to use code wsn_promo  when you sign up to claim yours.

Things Outlast Could Work On

Is Outlast perfect? No. Does the perfect DFS site exist? Also no.

There are always areas to tweak and improve and our experts have not come back with at least some constructive criticism. Here’s where we think those improvements could come for Outcast:

  • An obvious one to start, but Outlast is a mobile-only platform. This doesn’t really bother us, but it does exclude people who prefer to play their DFS on traditional desktop sites using their laptops. Having both options would probably be ideal.
  • We can’t really call this a criticism because it’s basically Outcast’s business plan, but the range of contests available is much smaller than other DFS sites. If you’re used to going deep on DraftKings and FanDuel for example, you might feel like there isn’t enough variation to keep you interested.
  • The banking options are good but could be improved. Currently, there are three different methods accepted – credit cards, ACH transfer, and Skrill. PayPal would be a good addition for one, and some left-field options like Bitcoin would be great too.

Outlast vs DraftKings/FanDuel

Although Outlast is theoretically another rival DFS site in the market, the truth is it feels like a platform that naturally coexists with the big two, rather than rivals them.

For one thing, Outlast actually suggests something similar in the “About OUTLAST” section of its website, declaring themselves fans of the big two and acknowledging that members of the team have the apps on their phones.

Instead, Outlast has been careful to position itself as a simplified alternative, a way into the world of DFS for newbies and anyone who has been overwhelmed in the past by the variety of games.

Arguably more so than the games on DK and FD, you don’t need a crazy bank of knowledge about any sport to enjoy Outlast (although it certainly won’t hurt). The simple Over/Under the format of most games is easy to understand, including for anyone who has never played DFS or placed a bet in their life.

The flipside of this, as we’ve mentioned before, is that DFS superfans might prefer to have a wider range of options at other sites.

Nevertheless, speaking as some pretty super DFS fans ourselves, we found the simplified approach to be a nice change of pace and something that we can enjoy in addition to the options at other sites.

The Final Word on Outlast

Daily Fantasy Sports is pretty well established in the US by now, but it’s still novel enough that interesting new sites and innovations are constantly appearing. And, as much as we appreciate DraftKings and FanDuel, it’s always great to get to know creative alternatives.

We’re happy to say that we think Outlast is a great addition. It fills a niche that we didn’t even realize needed to be filled before, first and foremost as a fun and easy-to-understand entry point for DFS newcomers.

The games are simple and enjoyable, the software is excellent and the promotions are generous.

Try it for yourself, and don’t forget to use the bonus code wsn_promo when you sign up.
