High Roller Technologies Files for Ontario License

Ontario may be one of the most highly competitive yet fastest-growing iGaming markets in the world right now. And while Brazil probably has them beat with several hundred online casino companies opening this year as the country restarts its legal online gaming business, it's important to remember that Brazil has about 220 million people. In contrast, Ontario has only about 16 million.

Still there are 80-plus casino websites in Ontario and more than 50 casino companies, it is fair to say that the market remains highly competitive, yet one that is growing revenue by approximately 32% year-over-year. Those 17 million people combined for nearly $60 billion in wagers and over $2.3 billion in revenue during the last fiscal year.

So, it is hardly surprising that many online casino companies are drawn like moths to the flame, especially now that Alberta appears to be the next Canadian province to legalize legal online casino gaming.

High Roller Technologies Files for Ontario License

Alberta’s population is significantly smaller still, at just over 4 million, but should they gamble at a rate even close to their neighbors to the east, entering these two gaming markets could provide a powerful one-two punch for any online casino company’s bottom line.

Which is precisely what Las Vegas-based High Roller Technologies is hoping for. They announced that they’ve submitted their application for an Ontario license today and will file with Alberta as soon as the province provides a mechanism.

Still, as High Roller Technology points out in its press release, it believes there is an opportunity in the high-end online casino space that isn’t currently being filled by any current operators, one that its High Roller and Fruta brands are uniquely positioned to fill.

The company offers over 5,000 slots, table games, and video poker machines from more than ninety of the world’s top game designers and grew its Active Monthly User base to over 30,000 people in the first quarter of 2025, up 34% from Q1 2024. But if they hope to succeed in Ontario, they will certainly need to bring their A-game.

Of course, if they could fight their way into taking just 1% of that total revenue pie, they would almost double their current revenue, and that’s not counting their plans in Alberta and Finland. While they are a bit late to the party, both gross wager and revenue growth of over thirty percent YOY would seem to indicate that there is still unmet demand in the Great White North.

And if they are right, and there is still room for a luxury-branded, High roller-focused online casino, they may strike gold. But in order for that to happen, they will need to remain laser-focused on their hosts and what they bring to the table. Free spins and mystery drops are great, and cash back is even better, but that won’t differentiate them in a market like this.

It will be about whether their VIP hosts can win over and keep this new Canadian clientele. And what it might cost to do that. Because courtside seats even at ice hockey games can still get pretty expensive, and wining and dining in Toronto or Ottawa doesn’t come cheap either.

However, capture high-end players at an acquisition cost that makes sense, and keep them coming back with great customer service, as well as top-of-the-line perks, while still maintaining margins where they need to be. And then Ontario, in particular, and Canada in general, may just be worth the gamble.

But long-term success in what is a rapidly maturing market will come down to how well you understand and treat these players, not some flashy welcome bonus. And whether your team can consistently deliver a tailored, polished experience that will keep those high rollers coming back for more.
