Jake Paul vs. Anthony Joshua: Betting Odds, Predictions, and Fight Preview

  • Jake Paul fights AJ on December 19 in Miami

  • Anthony Joshua is a former world champion with 25 KO wins

  • Jake Paul brings a 12-1-0 professional boxing record

It’s official. Jake Paul is stepping up several levels to face former world heavyweight boxing champion and knockout artist, Anthony Joshua. It’s the biggest fight of the young American’s career and comes on the back of points wins over the long-retired Mike Tyson and Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. The Problem Child will boast thousands of fans inside the Kaseya Center in Miami on Friday, 19th December, but has he bitten off more than he can chew this time?

Unlike most of his previous opponents, Anthony Joshua is an active fighter who desperately needs an impressive win and showreel knockout to get his career back on track. AJ will come to Miami to win. He’s not fighting for the money and knows what a defeat would do to his legacy. Having already destroyed former UFC champion Francis Ngannou inside the distance, the big-punching Brit will plot to do something similar here.

Jake Paul vs. Anthony Joshua Boxing Fight

As the table above shows, traders working at online sportsbook giant bet365 have Anthony Joshua as their firm favourite. The odds suggest anything other than a win for the former world heavyweight champion would be a huge upset.

Need help making sense of it all and finding the early betting value? Former professional boxer and respected betting writer Frankie Monkhouse shares his thoughts. He updates World Sports Network readers on the form of both men, highlights the most interesting betting markets, identifies the highest odds, and offers his early predictions.

Jake Paul vs. Anthony Joshua Odds

The odds in the table above cover the fight-winner market, and that’s the easiest way to bet on boxing. Simply pick the man you expect to win, and click their odds to add to your bet slip. Input your desired stake, check, and confirm. Your wager is now live, and you have a one-in-three chance of winning, with your pick working against the opponent and the draw.

Like most of Jake Paul’s fights, I wasn’t too sure how much truth was in the rumours about a meeting with Anthony Joshua before the end of the year. Following the Tank Davis fight falling flat on its face, I didn’t hold out much hope for seeing Paul share a ring with AJ. In fact, I thought it was little more than paper talk, but here we are. It just goes to show you can never be sure what will happen next with Jake’s boxing career.

Moving from Tyson and Chavez Jr to AJ is a colossal risk. Jake Paul is expected to lose, and when sharing a ring with such a hurtful puncher and experienced pro in Joshua, he could suffer a painful beating. If AJ is anywhere near his best and fights with intent, he could wipe his opponent out and end his boxing career with a single punch. He’s that dangerous.

Keep it Simple

We’ve already seen the usual suggestions that the fight is scripted and that AJ is being asked to pull his punches for a big payday. But Joshua is not a man chasing money. He still believes he can mix it with the best and win back at least a version of the championship.

The bout with Jake will be little more than a glorified sparring session for the Londoner. When betting on Paul vs Joshua, it pays to keep things as simple as possible, ignore the noise, and bet based on the stats.

Erickson Lubin Form and Figures

Erickson Lubin arrives from Florida with a 27-2-0 record. The 30-year-old southpaw boxer is ranked fifth in the United States at super welterweight and seventh in the world. Both will improve considerably if he beats Vergil Ortiz Jr on Saturday and takes the interim belt back to Kissimmee. A win of any description will do for Lubin. As the challenger, there’s not the same pressure on him to impress as we have with the champion.

Lubin has lost two of his previous 29 starts. The first loss came early in his career when Jermell Charlo stopped him inside a round in Brooklyn. His second loss was inflicted by Sebastian Fundora inside nine rounds in Las Vegas early in 2022. Since then, Lubin has fought three and won three, scoring a pair of knockouts in the process. His most recent bout ended in a late stoppage win over Andreal Holmes Jr in Florida. Does Lubin have what it takes to upset the odds and grab a 28th win in 30 fights? He’s certainly confident enough.

Betting Markets and Specials

The top betting apps are serious about Paul vs Joshua, and offer a long list of markets, ranging from the most popular to exciting specials. You can keep things simple and back the winner or dive into the extra markets. Pick the winning round, total rounds, round group betting, number of knockdowns, method of victory, bet builder, and more.

The most eye-catching boxing betting market is the method of victory. With this approach, you must predict both the winning fighter and how they’ll achieve the result. For example, you might fancy Paul to win on points or play Joshua by KO/TKO. Both parts of the bet must land to secure you a profit.

If you do fancy a method of victory bet, I have some stats that may prove useful.

Jake Paul has won his last two on points. He went eight rounds with a well past his best Mike Tyson, and that was two-minute rounds. Paul then went ten rounds with Chavez Jr in the usual three-minute round format back in June. If you want to have your stake on Paul winning in Miami, a points victory against the bigger man is a decent approach.

Did you know Anthony Joshua will travel from the UK capital to Miami with an incredible 89% knockout average? He scored memorable KO wins over the likes of Francis Ngannou, Kubrat Pulev, Alexander Povetkin, Carlos Takam, and Wladimir Klitschko. Each fighter is much more experienced and stronger than Jake Paul.

Prefer to avoid picking sides? Perhaps you’re sure AJ will win this bout inside the distance, but you’re not sure in which round. You can play the total round markets. Will Paul vs Joshua end before or after round eight? That’s a bet that’ll give you an interest from the opening bell.

Jake Paul vs. Anthony Joshua Prediction

There’s still a lot to find out about Paul vs Joshua, including the finer details of the bout. It looks likely to be a contest fought over eight rounds of three minutes in duration. AJ won’t need to start fast, but he’s used to fighting 12 rounds, meaning he must be sharper than usual and work harder. I’m picking AJ for a knockout in the second half of the bout.
