FIFA Club World Cup Schedule - Fun Facts

  1. Trial for the 2026 FIFA World Cup: The United States hosted last summer’s Copa América but faced significant criticism over poor pitch quality and inadequate security for players and fans. This time, US organizers aim to apply those lessons and improve the experience during the Club World Cup, which serves as a precursor to the world’s most-watched sporting event, the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

  2. Domestic Season Changes: As the new Club World Cup will take place in the summer, it has forced leagues around the world to be put on pause. In the case of European clubs, their summer breaks will be put on hold, whilst Argentine, MLS, and Japanese sides have been forced into a break from their respective league campaigns to turn their attention to the competition.

  3. Regional Champions' Clash: The Club World Cup has always been about the best from around the world going head-to-head. Going from six teams competing in the rebranded Intercontinental Cup, teams have had four years to earn their place in the ultimate club football competition, giving 32 teams from 6 footballing confederations the chance to see who really is the best.

  4. Group Stage Replay of the Intercontinental Cup Final: The scheduling for the expanded Club World Cup has shown it's not messing around. In the final of the Intercontinental Cup, Mexican side Pachuca faced 15-time UEFA Champions League winners Real Madrid, which was won by the Spanish side 2-0. As fate would have it, the two sides meet again in the second game in Group H. Can Los Tuzos record a famous revenge?

  5. The 'Extra Day': The opening match of the tournament, which features the host nation’s representative or a wildcard team from the region, is often scheduled a day earlier than the main event, giving fans a taste of what's to come. In this instance, it’s Lionel Messi’s Inter Miami hosting Egyptian side Al Ahly on the opening night at the Hard Rock Stadium in Miami.

  6. Time Zone Differences: When the tournament is hosted in Asia, for instance, it can create a unique situation for fans watching from Europe or South America, with matches happening at unusual hours due to significant timezone differences. This leads to creative ways of streaming or watching games, like middle-of-the-night broadcasts!
