Inter Miami on the Brink of Advancing to the Knockout Stage

Inter Miami are on the brink of the knockout stage of the Club World Cup. They have ridden their luck at times in the group phase so far, but the MLS team are just one positive result away from entering the round of 16. That would be a fine achievement for Javier Mascherano’s team, who will extend their participation in the competition with a draw or a win on Monday.

Inter Miami drew 0-0 with Al Ahly in the opening game of the competition. Outplayed in the first half, they fought back in the second period and dug deep to avoid defeat. On matchday two they went 1-0 down to Porto, before scoring twice in the second half - one a glorious Lionel Messi free-kick - to triumph.

Messi is the undoubted star of this team and with him around, Inter Miami have a chance against anyone.

Palmeiras Similarly Well Positioned to Make It Through the Group

Palmeiras were also involved in a 0-0 draw on matchday one, as neither they nor Porto were able to find a breakthrough at the MetLife Stadium.

The Brazilian giants then emerged victorious in their second game, beating Al Ahly 2-0. That means they are in a great position to reach the knockout stage.

Palmeiras will do exactly that if they do not lose here. Even if they are defeated, Abel Ferreira’s charges could still make it into the round of 16. Palmeiras have their fate in their own hands, which is exactly what every team wants in any competition.

Inter Miami and Palmeiras Might Both Get What They Want Here

Winning the group is a prize worth fighting for. Palmeiras are ahead of Inter Miami on goal differential at present, which means they are the favorites to go through in top spot.

Overall, though, a draw would suit both sides. That does not mean there will be any collusion before or during the game, but both Inter Miami and Palmeiras will be able to sense if the other is reasonably happy with the score being level.

Because it would be an outcome which suits both teams, it is well worth tipping a draw at the Hard Rock Stadium.
