LAFC Already Out After Losing Their First Two Games in Group D

Sadly for LAFC, their Club World Cup adventure ends here. Regardless of what happens on matchday three of the group stage, Los Angeles will be heading home. Two defeats in two games have put paid to their last-16 ambitions.

LAFC lost 2-0 to Chelsea in their first appearance of the tournament, before suffering a 1-0 defeat by Esperance de Tunis last time out. That was a real blow for the MLS team, who began the match as favorites and would have been in the mix for a top-two finish had they emerged triumphant.

LAFC are now playing for pride. A victory over Flamengo would be a good achievement for the club, even though progression to the knockouts is no longer possible.

Flamengo Safely Through and Top Spot Now in Their Sights

Flamengo are on a high as they prepare for their final game in the group stage of the Club World Cup. A 2-0 triumph over Esperance de Tunis and a 3-1 defeat of Chelsea mean the Brazilian powerhouses are already through to the round of 16. Another win here would send them through as group winners.

That would be a fantastic outcome for Flamengo, who were clear underdogs against Chelsea last time out. Yet they were not fazed by their status as outsiders and instead outplayed the Blues from start to finish. It was an excellent display from a club that was desperate to make an impression against one of Europe’s big boys.

Flamengo will now be looking to move onto nine points. Winning here has another benefit: it would probably see Filipe Luis’s charges avoid Bayern Munich in the round of 16. This Flamengo team is worth keeping an eye on.

Flamengo Fancied to Get Three More Points on Matchday Three

LAFC fans doubtless felt their side deserved to get something against Esperance de Tunis on matchday one, but the only goal of the game was scored by their opponents. The ‘home’ team must be more clinical on Tuesday if they are to avoid defeat in their final match.

Having said that, it is hard to see LAFC denying Flamengo a victory. The club from Rio de Janeiro is riding the crest of a wave and they will be keen to sign off on a high in Group D. It is true that Flamengo could be distracted by the last 16, but that alone will not be enough to stop them beating LAFC.

Unfortunately for the MLS team, this could be another tough 90 minutes of soccer. We fancy Flamengo to come out on top at the Camping World Stadium in Orlando.
