Manchester City New Favorites to Win the Club World Cup

Manchester City emerged as the new favorites to win the Club World Cup before the knockout phase got under way. Pep Guardiola’s side were rampant in the Group G, winning all three games and finishing with a goal difference of +11. Their 5-2 thrashing of Juventus on matchday three was yet more evidence that City are a force to be reckoned with in the USA.

By their sky-high standards, Guardiola’s team did not have much to celebrate in 2024/25. But City have strengthened their squad in the transfer market and they look to be getting back to their best.

There is still a way to go this summer, of course, and no one will be getting carried away just yet. Clearly, though, City are in a better position than they were a few months back. That bodes well for the remainder of the tournament, as well as for next season.

Al-Hilal Aiming to Give Another European Team a Bloody Nose

Al-Hilal gave Real Madrid a game in their first outing of the summer. The side from Saudi Arabia outplayed their illustrious opponents in the first half; although the tide turned after the break, Al-Hilal still picked up a point in a 1-1 draw.

A scoreless stalemate against Red Bull Salzburg followed, after which a 2-0 defeat of Pachuca saw Al-Hilal book their spot in the round of 16. Simone Inzaghi’s side are now looking to take a major scalp on Monday.

Inzaghi managed the Inter side that caused Manchester City problems in the 2023 Champions League. This is a stiffer test, though.

Manchester City Might Not Keep a Clean Sheet Against Al-Hilal

Al-Hilal were impressive against Real Madrid earlier this month. They created several chances either side of the goal they scored via a Ruben Neves penalty. Manchester City will not have everything their own way in the round of 16.

It is hard to look past a City triumph at the Camping World Stadium. But Guardiola’s men conceded twice against Juventus, even though they ultimately found a way to win the match comfortably.

There is little value to be had in backing City to come out on top. Instead, go for goals at both ends. A clean sheet could elude both teams here.
