Back Chelsea to beat Palmeiras. The draw has opened up for the Blues, who deserve to be favorites to win this one.

Chelsea Begin to Dream Of Club World Cup Glory This Summer

The draw has really opened up for Chelsea. Bayern Munich, Paris Saint-Germain, Real Madrid and Borussia Dortmund are all on one side of the bracket. Chelsea share their half with Al-Hilal, Fluminense and Palmeiras. That gives them an excellent chance of reaching the final of the Club World Cup.

Of course, Chelsea should not take anything for granted. Just because Palmeiras, Fluminense and Al-Hilal are non-European teams, it does not mean they are incapable of beating the Blues. After all, Inter and Manchester City were beaten by two of those sides in the round of 16.

However, Chelsea are clearly in a promising position. They took their time to get the better of Benfica last time out, scoring three goals in extra time to win 4-1. Having ended the 2024/25 campaign strongly, Chelsea have momentum behind them ahead of this clash with Palmeiras.

Palmeiras Turn Attention to Chelsea After Botafogo Victory

Palmeiras finished top of Group A, but they almost did not. Had they not scored two late goals to salvage a point against Inter Miami on matchday three, Palmeiras would have finished as runners-up. That would have meant a meeting with Paris Saint-Germain in the round of 16.

Instead, Abel Ferreira’s team faced Botafogo last time out. The two teams could not be separated in regulation time, so an additional 30 minutes were required. It looked like the game would go to penalties, but Paulinho struck in the 100th minute to send Palmeiras through.

Needless to say, this is their biggest test yet. Palmeiras have not faced a European team yet, and for the first time at the tournament they are clear underdogs. However, Ferreira is an astute tactician and it would be an error to write his team off.

Chelsea Can March Into Semi-Finals With a Victory Here

The jury remains out on Enzo Maresca, and the Italian has still not won over sections of the club’s fan base. But even though the Club World Cup is not the most prestigious tournament for European teams, victory this summer would be a huge boost to Maresca’s standing at Stamford Bridge.

Palmeiras have shown an ability to keep things tight at the back, so this might not be the most high-scoring encounter. It will probably be close, too, with perhaps only one goal separating the two teams when the final whistle sounds.

Overall, though, it is hard to look past a Chelsea win in the quarter-finals of the Club World Cup.
