PSG Among Favorites to Lift the Trophy in the USA This Summer

Paris Saint-Germain arrived in the USA as one of the leading candidates to win the Club World Cup. Nothing has changed since then, even though Luis Enrique’s side suffered a setback in the group stage when they were beaten 1-0 by Botafogo.

That was not enough to prevent PSG finishing top of Group B. They kick-started their campaign with a 4-0 thumping of Atletico Madrid, while they concluded the first stage of the tournament with a 2-0 victory over Seattle Sounders.

In between those two wins was the loss to Botafogo, but in a strange way that result might help PSG in the long run. It was a reminder to the European champions that it is not impossible to beat them. That defeat may have helped to refocus minds in Luis Enrique’s roster. That bodes well for PSG.

Anything That Happens From Here Is a Bonus for Inter Miami

Inter Miami are the only MLS team to make it into the knockout phase, with Seattle Sounders and LAFC having fallen by the wayside. Javier Mascherano’s side are therefore flying the flag for the host nation by themselves.

Inter Miami did not get off to a particularly good start this summer. They were outplayed in the first half against Al Ahly on opening night, but they still managed to squeeze out a 0-0 draw. Inter Miami then beat Porto 2-1, before drawing 2-2 with Palmeiras to finish second in Group A.

Lionel Messi will not be short of motivation against his former club, but Inter Miami need a big performance from the whole team if they are to do something special this weekend.

Inter Miami Have Messi but That Is Unlikely to Be Enough

Having Messi on their side - even a 38-year-old version - gives Inter Miami a chance against anyone. However, it will surely not be enough for them to halt PSG.

Luis Enrique’s team have been virtually unstoppable since the turn of the year and they should find things reasonably comfortable against Inter Miami.

We expect the European champions to be ahead at half-time, with PSG keen to make a fast start. They should then stay ahead until the final whistle.
