Back Real Madrid to beat Juventus. Xabi Alonso’s charges deserve their status as strong favourites to win this one.

Real Madrid Finding Rhythm but More Improvements to Follow

Real Madrid got their Club World Cup campaign off to a shaky start. They were outplayed by Al-Hilal on matchday one of the group stage, and although Xabi Alonso’s side fought back to draw 1-1, they experienced a fair few problems against the side from Saudi Arabia. After that game, Madrid were no longer favorites to lift the trophy.

Thankfully for the club’s new manager, Madrid got back on track quickly. Victories over Pachuca (3-1) and Red Bull Salzburg (3-0) saw Alonso’s team qualify for the knockout phase as the Group G winners. Madrid have found a better rhythm and no one will relish facing them over the next couple of weeks.

“Once you get past the group stage, every match feels like a final. Juve is Juve – they are a historic club in Europe,” Alonso said. Still, the Spaniard knows deep down that a defeat here would be a huge blow.

Juventus Dealt Blow but They Must Dust Themselves Down

Juventus breezed past Al Ain in a 5-0 victory on matchday one, before they put Wydad AC to the sword with a 4-1 victory a few days later. However, Igor Tudor’s charges were put in their place last time out, suffering a 5-2 loss to Manchester City which bumped them down to second in the standings.

That defeat was a humbling one for Juventus, but they must not dwell on it. The Bianconeri need to get that negative result out of their system rapidly if they are to cause a surprise in this one.

Juve are not the force they once were, having once again failed to challenge for the Serie A title last term. They should not be written off, but the Italians are underdogs.

Real Madrid Should Come Out on Top in This All-European Game

Real Madrid are under new management and it will doubtless take a while before Alonso gets all his ideas across to the roster he inherited from Carlo Ancelotti.

But even if Madrid are not quite operating at 100 percent, they will take some stopping for the rest of the tournament. It is difficult to envisage Juve halting their march in the round of 16.

The best bet for Tuesday’s game is a victory for Madrid, thus setting up a quarter-final tie against either Borussia Dortmund or Monterrey.
