PSG Aim to Put Rare Slip-up Behind Them Ahead of Last 16

Paris Saint-Germain got their Club World Cup campaign off and running with a confident 4-0 victory over Atletico Madrid on matchday one. Following their romp to the Champions League trophy in 2024/25, Luis Enrique’s side picked up from where they left off in the USA. It was a result which made them favorites to win the entire tournament.

Yet PSG’s progress was checked in their second group game, as they suffered a shock 1-0 loss to Botafogo. As a consequence, they are not yet guaranteed a place in the knockout stage. A defeat here would send the Parisians crashing out of the competition before the round of 16.

That means Luis Enrique and his players are under pressure ahead of Monday’s head-to-head clash with Seattle Sounders. The defeat by Botafogo was probably just an off-night, but PSG must prove that by winning their final group match.

Seattle Sounders Eye Famous Night Despite Impending Exit

Seattle Sounders are not out of contention for a last-16 berth yet, despite the fact they have lost both their matches so far. The MLS team were beaten 2-1 by Botafogo in their first outing of the tournament, before suffering a 3-1 loss to Atletico Madrid last time out.

The Sounders can still qualify for the next round, but they need a near-miracle to do so. First of all, they must take care of their own business by beating PSG. Then they need Botafogo to overcome Atletico in the other game taking place simultaneously.

Even if both those happen, the Sounders could be sent packing on goal differential. They have a mountain to climb.

MLS Team Will Find It Difficult to Hang With PSG for 90 MInutes

PSG were below par against Botafogo in their most recent game, but that was probably just a minor blip for the reigning European champions.

Luis Enrique’s charges should return to winning ways here. Seattle Sounders will have their moments, but this looks set to be a pretty one-sided affair.

Goals should be on the cards, as they usually are when PSG are on the field. We should see at least three strikes in total as the French side march on.
