Paris Saint-Germain Aim to Complete Unpredicted Triumph

There are many reasons (and certainly too many to list here) why soccer is the world’s most popular sport and why it enthrals people in all four corners of the globe. One is undoubtedly the tension between the individual and the collective. But while there are occasions when one player can bend events to his will, the history of soccer suggests the group usually triumphs.

Case study number one: Paris Saint-Germain. For years the French giants set about assembling the most star-studded squad possible. This galactico-focused recruitment policy culminated in the selection, for two seasons, of a front three of Neymar, Lionel Messi and Kylian Mbappe, arguably the most gifted frontline of all time. Sergio Ramos and Dani Alves - two of the best defenders of their generation - offered additional star quality, as if it were needed.

This outstanding collection of phenomenal talents must have swept all before them on multiple fronts, right? Not quite. PSG did not even make a Champions League semi-final with Neymar, Messi and Mbappe spearheading the team. It turns out that coherence and balance are more important in soccer than sheer weight of talent. Who knew?

PSG, in fairness, have learned their expensive lesson. Mbappe’s exit last summer marked the end of the superstar era at the Parc des Princes. To be sure, their squad still contains a huge amount of quality. But the manager Luis Enrique has placed the collective at the heart of his project - and PSG are reaping the rewards.

They have already won a domestic double of Ligue 1 title and the Coupe de France, but the Champions League is the holy grail for a club that has never before been crowned kings of the continent. This PSG team is one victory away from immortality, something that the roster led by Mbappe, Messi and Neymar never came close to achieving.

Inter Need One Last Push to Get Over the Line in Europe

Inter have got their hands on this famous trophy three times before, but that does not diminish their hunger to come out on top this weekend. There are no surviving members of the Nerazzurri squad that triumphed under Jose Mourinho’s tutelage in 2010, but plenty from Inter’s loss to Manchester City in the showpiece event two years ago.

Inter have shown different sides of their identity during this season’s tournament. In the league phase they conceded just one goal in eight games, by far the best defensive record of all 36 competitors. Meanwhile in each of their last seven Champions League outings, Inter have scored at least two goals.

Simone Inzaghi’s side have proved themselves to be a well-rounded team capable of winning games in different ways. They are more than happy to grind out a 1-0 victory in the stereotypical Italian manner. Equally, though, Inter are willing and able to fight fire with fire, as they showed in a thrilling 7-6 aggregate success against an ultra-attacking Barcelona team in the semis.

Inter missed out on the Serie A title last weekend and it is unclear what effect that will have on them. Perhaps it will inspire them to bounce back and end the season in glory. Or maybe it has put a dent in their confidence ahead of this all-important showdown at the Allianz Arena in Munich.

The best online sportsbooks have Inter down as underdogs, yet you cannot help but feel that they prefer it that way. Inzaghi’s crew have upset the odds in this competition before. Now they are out to do so on the biggest stage of all.

All Eyes on Munich as Two Top Teams Battle It Out for the Trophy

This Champions League final really could go either way. It is easy to make a case for either team to come out on top. PSG have been the best team in the competition in 2025, but Inter are a tough nut to crack with a knack for finding ways to win. It all makes for an intriguing denoument to the European season.

Overall, though, we reckon the smart money is on PSG. They have steamrollered plenty of opponents this season, but Luis Enrique’s young group has also shown impressive resilience and maturity. Those qualities will stand them in good stead on Saturday.

They also have an abundance of quality at their disposal. And while Inter’s backline was watertight in the league phase, it has not been more recently. Indeed, Inzaghi’s side have shipped eight goals in their last three European outings.

Consider, too, the physical shape both teams are likely to be in. Locked in a title race with Napoli until the final weekend, Inter have had to throw everything at every game in recent weeks. PSG, conversely, have in effect been taking things easy in France for some time. They are surely fresher than their upcoming opponents and that could be decisive.

Go for a PSG victory over Inter in the 2025 Champions League final this weekend.
