NBA Sunday Player Props and Best Bets: Kevin Durant & More Picks for Dec. 21

Riding a 12-1 stretch with my picks over the last three days, it’s time to close out the week with the best NBA player prop bets for Sunday.

Kawhi Leonard turned back the clock to go for 32 points and 12 rebounds as the Los Angeles Clippers won the Battle for LA, while Tyrese Maxey’s 38 points lifted the Philadelphia 76ers over the Dallas Mavericks at home.

There are six games on Sunday, starting at 3:30 Eastern with the Chicago Bulls visiting the Atlanta Hawks. The best game of the day should come in the evening, when the New York Knicks host the Miami Heat in a battle between two of the top teams in the Eastern Conference.

Let’s jump into my best NBA player prop picks and bets for Sunday, Dec. 21.

NBA Sunday Player Props and Best Bets: Kevin Durant & More Picks for Dec. 21

Josh Giddey over 8.5 assists (+104) at FanDuel Sportsbook

Trae Young’s return to the lineup has led to the Hawks, who have strong defensive pieces, surrendering 133 and 126 points in two games. That’s heavily influenced by teams exploiting Young, who is criminally undersized and doesn’t have terrific instincts on that side of the court.

The Bulls aren’t playing at the same level they were early in the year, but Giddey is still producing. He’s basically alternated between the over and under for the last few weeks, but Young’s presence on the floor means that the Hawks are going to have to live in rotation and will leave backside passes open.

OG Anunoby under 2.5 threes (-108) at FanDuel Sportsbook

On the surface, betting the over makes a lot of sense here. The Heat play at a breakneck pace, rank 23rd in made threes allowed per game, and gave up 21 threes on 40 percent shooting when these teams last played on Nov. 14.

While the Heat might give up lots of threes, they also held teams to just 33.8 percent shooting from beyond the arc, the fourth-lowest mark in the league. Anunoby also isn’t the type of player to stop-and-pop in transition, which is the most obvious way to take advantage of their quick tempo, and he was only 2-11 from three in his last two games combined.

Egor Demin under 1.5 threes (+100) at FanDuel Sportsbook

I said this a couple of days ago about Dylan Harper, which is that we can’t normalize outlier performances or trends. That’s why I’m taking the under on Demin, who went 3-12 from three on Thursday and cashed the over in three of his last 14 outings.

The 6-foot-8 19-year-old made 1.9 threes per game on 34.4 percent shooting, but he also took four or fewer threes in five of his last seven games. His numbers are heavily influenced by outlier games, like Thursday or Nov. 28, when he went 5-14 from deep, and he doesn’t have a refined stroke that warrants blind faith on a nightly basis.

Jaden McDaniels over 13.5 points (-130) at FanDuel Sportsbook

The Milwaukee Bucks are having a down year, and they only ranked 13th in points allowed per game. I also like a lot of trends related to McDaniels, particularly his increase in shot volume, which saw him take 12.8 field goal attempts per game in December.

McDaniels went under in back-to-back games, but he also had 13 points on inefficient shooting in those, and he still went over in five of eight in December. A return to his usual efficiency against a mediocre defense, combined with extra looks at the basket, should help him cash the over.

Kevin Durant over 4.5 assists (+112) at FanDuel Sportsbook

Durant might not be asked to constantly set the table, but he’s done a tremendous job of moving the ball to the right places and making the right pass when it’s needed. He went over his last time on the court and in five of eight games in December.

The Sacramento Kings have been disappointing on defense all year, and they “climbed” to 19th in assists allowed per game over their last 15. Durant had eight dimes when these teams matched up on Dec. 3, and I’m expecting a similar series of events to play out.
