NBA Player Props and Best Bets: Giannis Antetokounmpo, Karl-Anthony Towns & More Picks for Wednesday, Jan. 21

Another day, another dollar in the NBA, and I’m back to share my favorite player prop picks for the Wednesday slate.

Alperen Sengun went for 20 points, 13 rebounds, and nine assists to lead the Houston Rockets in a comeback victory against the San Antonio Spurs, while Keyonte George’s 43 points were enough to outduel Anthony Edwards and the Minnesota Timberwolves.

The headliner of tonight’s action is Giannis Antetokounmpo and the Milwaukee Bucks against the Oklahoma City Thunder, while the exciting Charlotte Hornets will also get a chance to match wits with the Cleveland Cavaliers.

Here are my best NBA player prop picks and bets for Wednesday, Jan. 21.

LaMelo Ball Over 6.5 Assists (-154) at FanDuel Sportsbook

Ball only got to play for 19 minutes in Sunday’s blowout win against the Denver Nuggets and 21 in 21 in Saturday’s blowout loss against the Golden State Warriors, so naturally, he went under in both. Any time he got to play at least 25 minutes, he went over in five of his last seven games.

The Cavaliers have done a terrible job of defending the three-point line, which is a massive issue, considering the Hornets have been playing at one of the highest levels on offense in the league. Ball is the primary facilitator and is getting a matchup that favors him, also because Cleveland plays at the sixth-fastest pace in the league.

Karl-Anthony Towns Over 21.5 Points (+100) at FanDuel Sportsbook

Towns averaged 21.0 points per game, but he went over this line in back-to-back outings. He also scored 37 and 28 points, both times shooting at least 58.8 percent from the field, in two previous matchups with the Brooklyn Nets.

The Nets rank 10th in points allowed per game, but that has more to do with their overall pace of play, not their defensive prowess. Towns already showed that he can dominate his matchup with Nic Claxton, who is more of a rim-protector than a roaming defender that would enjoy chasing Towns onto the perimeter and closing out on threes.

Giannis Antetokounmpo Under 28.5 Points (-118) at FanDuel Sportsbook

The Milwaukee Bucks’ roster just isn’t stuffed with that much talent, so I don’t believe that the Thunder will do much aside from send extra bodies to close Giannis’ driving lanes and force him to pass the ball. He only took 12 or 13 shots in three straight games and went under this line in four of his last five games to boot.

The Thunder allowed the fewest points per game, and unlike years past, they have two rim protectors in Chet Holmgren and Isaiah Hartenstein to stop Antetokounmpo if he gets past the initial defenders. The Greek Freak also scored just 21 points on 46.7 percent shooting in their only matchup last season on March 16.

Anfernee Simons Under 2.5 Assists (-122) at FanDuel Sportsbook

Simons had one assist in two matchups with the Indiana Pacers and four in the other one on Jan. 12. He went under in back-to-back games after going over in four straight, making it relatively difficult to establish a baseline pattern.

The Pacers allowed the sixth-fewest assists per game, and Simons just logged zero assists in his last game against the Detroit Pistons, who give up the fewest average assists. Considering he doesn’t spend much time with the ball in his hands, and when he gets it, he typically ends up shooting, I think he’ll deliver on the under.

Ja Morant Under 19.5 Points (-114) at FanDuel Sportsbook

Morant returned from a couple of weeks off to score 24 points in a matchup with the Orlando Magic in London, England. He went over in four of seven games since the beginning of December, but he also hasn’t been on the court very much, and he averaged 19.3 points on career-worst 41/24 shooting splits from the field and from three.

The Hawks are in the bottom 10 in basketball for points allowed per game over the last few weeks, but they have strong on-ball defenders with Dyson Daniels and Nickeil Alexander-Walker. Morant doesn’t look anything like he has in years past and has been horribly inefficient, and I can’t back him to consistently produce huge scoring totals.
