Go for an Aston Villa win when they face Arsenal. This is a big call, but at the odds available it is worth a punt on Unai Emery’s men doing the business.

Arsenal are exactly where they want to be after 14 rounds of fixtures this Premier League season. Mikel Arteta’s men have collected 33 points from the first 42 available, giving them a five-point advantage over Manchester City in second place. The best online sportsbooks have the Gunners down as clear favorites to win the title, something this group is desperate to do.
It has been a long wait without a championship crown for Arsenal. The north London outfit are the third-most successful side in English soccer history behind Liverpool and Manchester United, but their last title was back in 2003/04, when Arsene Wenger’s ‘Invincibles’ went the entire campaign unbeaten.
Arsenal have won trophies since then, including the FA Cup in 2020 following Arteta’s appointment a few months earlier, but the title has consistently eluded them. They did not really get close for a long time, but Arteta has made Arsenal more competitive in recent years. Indeed, they have finished as runners-up for three campaigns in a row.
Given that, Arsenal are understandably desperate to get over the line. They have clearly been the best team in the division so far this season, which is why they will be a little disappointed that their lead stands at just five points. A win here would extend that to eight, at least until Manchester City face Sunderland a few hours later. Aston Villa will have a go this weekend.
It was business as usual for Arsenal in midweek, as they beat Brentford 2-0 at the Emirates Stadium. That was their eighth clean sheet in their 14th match this term, with Brentford just the latest team to fail to breach Arsenal’s backline. The Gunners’s title charge is being built on a rock-solid defense that opponents are struggling to penetrate.

Arsenal have been excellent in recent months, but they are not actually the form team in the Premier League. That accolade belongs to Aston Villa, who have taken 25 points from the last 30 available, compared to Arsenal on 24. It has been quite a turnaround for Villa, who got out of the blocks slowly at the beginning of the campaign.
Unai Emery’s men failed to score a goal in their first four matches, while they did not win any of their first five. After a 1-1 draw with Sunderland in the middle of September, Villa found themselves in the Premier League relegation zone. There were even questions being asked of Emery at that point, specifically whether he might have taken Villa as far as he could.
Not quite. Villa have won eight of their last nine matches, an extraordinary sequence for any side. Their solitary slip-up in that time came in the form of a 2-0 defeat by Liverpool, but Villa have beaten Tottenham Hotspur and Manchester City in that time.
On Wednesday night, they came from 2-0 down to run out 4-3 winners against Brighton & Hove Albion in a thrilling encounter down on the south coast. It was a fantastic result which moved Villa up to third place.
“A very tough match. How we started and reacted is more like the season. The players reacted and continued with our game plan to never give up. We kept the mentality and the resilience, really fantastic,” Emery said in his post-match interview at the Amex Stadium.
“The table is very important for us. We know how difficult it is. We needed to work hard and perform. We will play on Saturday against Arsenal at home. The teams behind us are going to push a lot. Be humble because we know how difficult it is to face teams in the Premier League.”

Arsenal will be without some key players for the early Premier League kick-off on Saturday. William Saliba and Gabriel Magalhaes were already on the treatment table, and another center-back has gone down with injury after Cristhian Mosquera went off against Brentford.
Declan Rice also picked up an issue in midweek, while Leandro Trossard remains sidelined. Aston Villa, for their part, should welcome back Emiliano Martinez between the posts after he missed the Brighton match last time out.
There is a chance Rice will feature this weekend, but his inclusion would be a risk. If Arteta chooses not to gamble, though, Arsenal’s spine will be further weakened. There will, in other words, be plenty for Aston Villa to go at.
Over the last 10 games, Villa have a better record than Arsenal. They will also benefit from home advantage on Saturday. It is a slight surprise, then, to see them rated as such outsiders by the sportsbooks.
Arsenal deserve to be favorites, but this promises to be a close game. At the odds available, it is with a punt on Aston Villa collecting maximum points in this one.
