Fulham vs. Arsenal 2025 10 18

Arsenal on Top and They Will Not Give It up Easily

After losing 1-0 to Liverpool on the last day of August, there was considerable doom and gloom around Arsenal. A limp display at Anfield saw the Gunners punished late on, as Dominik Szoboszlai’s free-kick gave the Premier League champions all three points. Not for the first time in his tenure, Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta was accused of excessive conservatism.

The same criticism was widely aired following a 1-1 draw with Manchester City last month. Arsenal named a cautious starting XI and found themselves 1-0 down at the interval. They did improve after the break and eventually equalized in second-half stoppage time, but once again Arsenal refused to take the initiative from the get-go.

The mood at the Emirates Stadium is significantly brighter a few weeks on. In their two league games prior to the October international break, Arsenal beat Newcastle United 2-1 and West Ham United 2-0. At the same time, Liverpool suffered back-to-back defeats by Crystal Palace and Chelsea. As a result, Arsenal are now the Premier League leaders.

Last season, the Gunners did not lose a single game against fellow members of the big six (Liverpool, Manchester City, Manchester United, Chelsea and Tottenham Hotspur). Their title bid was instead undermined by results against the other 14 clubs in the division. So far this term, that pattern looks to have flipped.

It would be unusual, but not impossible, for Arsenal to win the title without beating Liverpool or Manchester City, their two most likely rivals for the crown. If Arteta’s side can reliably defeat the so-called lesser teams, they will stand a good chance of ending their wait for a first championship since 2004.

Arteta is often too passive in big games, but he has nonetheless created an excellent team which he hopes is now ready to clear that final hurdle.

Fulham Yet to Find Consistency at Start of Season

Along with the likes of Brentford, Bournemouth and Brighton & Hove Albion, Fulham were one of the teams who flirted with European qualification last season, only to miss out come the conclusion of the campaign. Marco Silva’s side ultimately finished 11th - a solid season all in all, but not quite good enough to qualify for continental competition.

Taking that next step is the aim this time around, but it will not be at all easy. The aforementioned big six, plus Aston Villa and Newcastle, all have bigger budgets than Fulham, who would have to punch above their weight to qualify for Europe.

Silva wanted more activity in the summer transfer market too. Fulham were busy late on, signing Kevin, Jonah Kusi-Asare and Samuel Chukwueze on September 1, but we have not yet seen a great deal of the trio, particularly the latter two. As such, Fulham’s XIs so far this season are very similar to those we saw last year.

That is not necessarily an issue. Continuity can be underrated. But to merely stand still in the Premier League, you have to be constantly looking to strengthen. In theory Fulham have done that with those three additions, but only time will tell whether or not the newcomers are successful at Craven Cottage.

Fulham have had an inconsistent start to 2025/26, although to an extent that comes with the territory when you are a mid-table club. The Cottagers have won two, drawn two and lost three of their seven games up to now. Both their victories have come at home, whereas Fulham rank third-bottom in the away table.

There is room for improvement, then, but it is hard to see Fulham being involved in a relegation battle. On the evidence so far, another lower mid-table finish beckons for the west Londoners.

Arsenal Likely to Come Out on Top at Craven Cottage

Fulham held Arsenal to a 1-1 draw in this fixture last season. That was a disappointing result for Arteta's men back then and it would be the same this weekend. Arsenal must maintain their momentum by emerging triumphant in this London derby.

We fancy their chances of doing so. Arsenal have the strongest defence in the Premier League and that counts for a lot. Fulham will struggle to breach their opponents' backline here, and if Arsenal succeed in keeping a clean sheet, they would only need one goal of their own to pick up maximum points on the road.

That will be Arsenal's strategy. They will not play defensive soccer, but will instead focus on controlling the game and keeping the ball away from Fulham. A sweeping end-to-end encounter would be Arteta's worst nightmare.

As such, we anticipate a low-scoring game. A maximum of two goals is our prediction, and to extract maximum value from the market, it is worth combining that with a moneyline wager. Go for an Arsenal victory and under 2.5 goals for their clash with Fulham on Saturday.
