Had Manchester United lost to Sunderland before the international break, Ruben Amorim may well have found himself out of a job. As it was, a dominant display from the Red Devils earned them a 2-0 victory over the promoted outfit. Amorim, while still under scrutiny, lives to fight another day.

Labeling the game a potential turning point would be premature, however. There have been far too many false dawns in Amorim’s tenure to date for anyone to get carried away. “Sometimes when we look at our team I know for sure that they know sometimes we can do better. We need to show it on the pitch, not just at home, but also abroad.”

Even as his first anniversary at the helm approaches, Amorim has yet to win back-to-back league games as United boss. There would be no better place to do that for the first time than at Anfield, the home of United’s arch-rivals.

Liverpool Should Edge It but Only if They Protect Against Counters

Manchester United have actually done a pretty good job of creating chances this season. Their finishing has at times let them down, but they are at least fashioning opportunities on a regular basis. However, they are still one of the weaker teams in the division defensively.
