Arsenal Must Remember They Are Still in a Great Position

So we might get a title race after all. Around a week and a half ago, it looked like Arsenal would open up a decisive nine-point lead at the top of the Premier League. They comfortably beat Sunderland on home turf, then watched Liverpool take a 1-0 lead against their title rivals Manchester City. Things looked good for the Gunners.

City were not done there, though. Refusing to accept their fate, they rallied in the closing stages at Anfield. First, Bernardo Silva struck to draw City level, before Erling Haaland notched the winner from the penalty stop in injury time. Arsenal's lead was down to six points.

That is exactly what it had been at the start of the weekend, but the manner of City's triumph over Liverpool - snatching victory from the jaws of defeat - made it feel like they had gained ground on the league leaders.

They did actually do that a few days later. City halved the gap to Arsenal when they beat Fulham 3-0 last Tuesday. Mikel Arteta's men had the chance to respond 24 hours later, but they could only manage a 1-1 draw with Brentford. They might easily have lost that match on another day, with the Bees having the better of proceedings for long periods.

Arsenal looked a little nervous against Brentford. There was sloppy passing and unforced mistakes. Having finished as runners-up three campaigns on the bounce, Arsenal are utterly desperate to win the title this term. Sometimes that shows in their performances.

It is easier said than done, of course but Arsenal must try and stay calm. They are still in a fantastic position. Everyone associated with the club would have settled for being four points clear of the chasing pack with 12 rounds of matches remaining. The best online sportsbooks still have Arsenal down as title favorites for good reason.

Wolves Already Preparing for Life Back in the Championship

This has been a truly dismal season for Wolverhampton Wanderers. Having survived relegation reasonably comfortably last term, the objective was to push on this time around. Amid ongoing frustration with the club's owners, Wolves fans did not necessarily expect to surge up the table and qualify for Europe. But nor did they expect this.

After 26 games, Wolves have amassed just nine points. They need one more victory to surpass Derby County’s record low Premier League points tally of 11 from 2007/08, but when you have won one match out of 26 that is far from certain. Needless to say, with an 18-point deficit to Nottingham Forest in 17th, Wolves will be a Championship team in 2026/27.

What has gone wrong? Wolves supporters rightly point to a steady decline. They have continually sold off their star players and failed to invest enough money to adequately replace them. Poor recruitment decisions have not helped them make the most of the cash they have splashed.

The worry is, it will not necessarily be easy to bounce back. In recent times relegated teams have fared well in their first season back in the second tier, but that has not been the case for Leicester City and Southampton in the current campaign. Wolves will also have to rebuild their squad with their better players likely to depart in the summer.

Rob Edwards must be wondering if he made the right decision to swap promotion-challenging Middlesbrough for Wolves earlier in the season. Those two teams could well swap places in the coming months. Upon taking the job Edwards must have felt survival was possible, but he has been unable to save the sinking shape.

Arsenal Can Get Their Title Bid Back on Track at Molineux

The timing of this fixture should help Arsenal. They will have played a game more than Manchester City by the end of the week, but that gives them a chance to get points on the board, and those are always preferable to matches in hand. The fact Arsenal are facing the bottom team in the Premier League is also beneficial.

That is not to say they need only turn up and be given three points. Wolves are playing for pride and they will fight hard here. Yet given their lack of quality and fragile confidence, Arsenal are deservedly seen as strong favorites to come out on top. In fact, it is hard to see this match ending any other way.

With little value to be had in backing a straightforward away win, the half-time/full-time market is the best source of value. Arsenal will fancy their chances of being ahead at the interval, and with a lead at half-time they would almost certainly go on to collect maximum points at Molineux.

With that in mind, go for Arsenal in the half-time/full-time market. The Gunners should have too much for Wolves in both halves this midweek, and we expect them to be ahead after both 45 and 90 minutes.
