Best MLB Bets Today May 9

The Milwaukee Brewers and Tampa Bay Rays have been two of the worst-hitting teams in baseball over the last week. Now they’ll square off with some of their top arms on the mound, giving us a recipe for an easy under bet. Below, we’ll share why we love this bet and two others we are locking in today.

The odds we use for the below bets are taken from Caesars Sportsbook. Sign up at Caesars today with our promo code WSNDYW to claim a “Bet $1, Get Ten 100% Profit Boost Tokens” offer.

Texas Rangers vs. Detroit Tigers (6:40 PM EST)

Run Line Spread Moneyline Total
Rangers +1.5 (+100) +215 Over 7.5 (-115)
Tigers -1.5 (-120) -267 Under 7.5 (-105)

PICK: Tigers -1.5 (-120) at Caesars Sportsbook

The Texas Rangers continue to sink to the bottom of the AL. They have gone 6-13 since April 17, failing to win a series despite a soft part of the schedule. While Josh Smith and Wyatt Langford have been hitting the ball well, the rest of the lineup has disappointed. That won’t change with former Cy Young winner Tarik Skubal (3-2, 2.21 ERA, 0.98 WHIP) on the mound.

Detroit’s ace has been near unhittable over his last five starts, allowing just three runs over 30 innings (0.90 ERA). He can add to those impressive numbers against a Rangers team with a .544 OPS against him.

On the mound tonight, Texas will turn to veteran Patrick Corbin (2-1, 3.28 ERA, 1.50 WHIP). While his ERA is solid, the lefty has allowed far too many baserunners. While he’s been able to keep most of those runners from scoring, that won’t be the case against a Tigers team with an OPS of .924 over the last week.

Milwaukee Brewers vs. Tampa Bay Rays (7:05 PM EST)

Run Line Spread Moneyline Total
Brewers -1.5 (+150) -110 Over 9 (-120)
Rays +1.5 (-178) -110 Under 9 (+100)

PICK: Under 9 (+100) at Caesars Sportsbook

Brewers’ starter Jose Quintana (4-1, 2.83 ERA, 1.22 WHIP) was rocked in his last time out after one bad inning. He was hammered by the Rays last season, but that game was before the veteran hit his stride. With Tampa batting a measly .193 over the previous week, don’t expect a repeat performance to unfold tonight.

As bad as the Rays’ lineup has been over the last week, the Brewers have been worse. They have been batting .176 over the previous seven days, and Jackson Chourio and Christian Yelich have been mired in slumps.

Tampa starter Zack Littell (2-5, 4.61 ERA, 1.10 WHIP) got off to a brutal start but has turned things around over his previous four starts. He had a 3.00 ERA during that span, which is impressive considering that he had faced the Yankees, Padres, D-backs, and Red Sox. His hot streak will continue tonight against an ice-cold Brewers lineup.

Cincinnati Reds vs. Houston Astros (8:10 PM EST)

Run Line Spread Moneyline Total
Reds +1.5 (-145) +143 Over 7.5 (-120)
Astros -1.5 (+122) -170 Under 7.5 (+100)

PICK: Astros ML (-170) at Caesars Sportsbook

We trust Houston to cover this bet thanks to start Hunter Brown (5-1, 4.67 ERA, 0.88 WHIP). The 26-year-old broke out to become a solid starter last season, but has looked like an ace in 2025. He will continue to look the part against a Cincinnati team that posted a .167 average against him last season.

Cincinnati will be sending Nick Martinez (1-3, 4.19 ERA, 1.24 WHIP) out to the mound to start opposite Brown. While he has been playing his best baseball over the last few weeks, the same cannot be said of the Reds’ bullpen. Even if Martinez dazzles, the unit doesn’t have the talent to protect the lead against a dangerous Astros lineup.
