NBA Player Props and Best Bets: Anthony Edwards, Cade Cunningham & More Picks for Thursday, Jan. 29

With only one more sleep until the weekend, I’m back with another batch of my best NBA player prop picks for Thursday.

Victor Wembanyama was electric in the San Antonio Spurs’ comeback victory against the Houston Rockets, going for 28 points, 16 rebounds, and five blocks. Paolo Banchero also stayed hot with 31 points and 12 rebounds in an in-state win over the Miami Heat.

The top matchup tonight pits the Oklahoma City Thunder against the Minnesota Timberwolves, while the Detroit Pistons will take on the Phoenix Suns in a battle between two top teams.

Here are my best NBA player prop picks and bets for Thursday, Jan. 29.

Jabari Smith Jr. Under 12.5 Points (-104) at FanDuel Sportsbook

Smith Jr. scored eight points in consecutive games, one of those being last night’s loss to the Spurs, and went under in three straight. He also faces a difficult matchup as the Atlanta Hawks, who aren’t exactly known for their defense, allowed the second-fewest second-chance points per game over the last few weeks.

Controlling the glass is a great way to beat the Rockets, who are in contention for the title of “Best rebounding team in the league.” With the Rockets being on the road for the second night of a back-to-back and the Hawks having the personnel to match up with him, I expect him to stay under this line.

Cade Cunningham Over 23.5 Points (-106) at FanDuel Sportsbook

Cunningham went under in five of his last six games and only scored 10 points on 18.8 percent shooting when the Pistons met the Suns exactly two weeks ago. Despite that, he averaged 25.3 points per game and started to look like his usual self recently, scoring 22 points on 52.9 percent shooting in his last game, and 29 points on 59.1 percent the game before that.

The Pistons’ MVP candidate doesn’t have great numbers against teams in the top five for points allowed per game (which includes the Suns), but he just so happened to play three of them within the last two weeks. He scored 32 and 42 points against the Boston Celtics earlier this year, showing he can score against great defenses, and he’s simply too good of a player to continue at this trajectory.

Anthony Edwards Over 6.5 Rebounds (+124) at FanDuel Sportsbook

Edwards split the over/under at two apiece over his last four games after going on a strong streak of unders just before that. However, there’s something about him in important matchups, specifically those against the Thunder, that brings the best out of him.

Edwards grabbed 12, eight, 13, 10, seven, and seven rebounds in his last six matchups with the Thunder, going back to New Year’s Eve 2024. The Thunder are only 24th in rebounds allowed per game, and Minnesota’s star man has proven time and time again that he can deliver in this market.

Michael Porter Jr. Under 25.5 Points (-122) at FanDuel Sportsbook

To put what the oddsmakers think of the Brooklyn Nets into perspective, their second-highest projected points total of any player is Nic Claxton at over/under 10.5 points. With Egor Demin, Cam Thomas, Noah Clowney, and Ziaire Williams, Porter will be the only person with scoring credentials of any kind that will be on the floor.

The former Denver Nugget forward scored 27 points when these teams met at the start of the month, but he also took an outlier nine free-throw attempts despite averaging 4.2 per game. The Nuggets ranked fifth in points allowed per game over their last 15 outings, and I don’t know how the Nets will create any offense or avoid a potential blowout.

Kon Kneuppel Over 3.5 Assists (+102) at FanDuel Sportsbook

The Dallas Mavericks have done a terrific job of limiting their opponents’ three-point shots all year. My logic behind taking Kneuppel’s over is that if he is struggling to get clean looks from the perimeter, he will put the ball on the deck and get downhill, or swing it to another teammate to create a potential shooting opportunity.

The 20-year-old rookie dished out six assists in back-to-back games and went over in three of his last four contests. The Charlotte Hornets are playing some of the best offense in basketball (yes, you read that correctly), and he’s at the center of that.
