Denver Nuggets vs. Oklahoma City Thunder Betting Pick

Despite winning Game 1, the Denver Nuggets still have an uphill battle when they take on the Oklahoma City Thunder in Game 2. The Thunder offense was locked in during Game 1, so expect them to maintain that pace in Game 2. Adjustments will be made after Jokic’s strong Game 1 showing, but overall, their mismanagement of Game 1’s closing moments doesn’t detract from their quality. The Nuggets will put up a fight regardless of the result, so don’t expect a sudden blowout.

Denver Nuggets Preview

The Denver Nuggets shocked the NBA world on Monday night when they stole Game 1 from the Oklahoma City Thunder. They trailed for much of the game, but a late run, coupled with championship experience, won them the day. They’ll try to prove it wasn’t a fluke on Wednesday night while attempting to take a commanding 2-0 lead in the series,

Denver was excellent in Game 1, withstanding an early run against the Thunder to win at the last moment. They played a short, eight-player lineup despite going seven games with LA. Still, they posted 121 points on 44.2% shooting. Their dominance came in the paint, outsourcing the Thunder 54 to 46 and outrebounding them 63 to 43. How OKC handles them at the rim will determine the outcome of Game 2.

Unsurprisingly, Nikola Jokic stepped up to lead the Nuggets against his MVP rival Shai Gilgeous-Alexander on Monday night. He was incredible, posting 42 points, 22 rebounds, six assists, and two made threes on 51.7% from the field. He also had excellent support, as Jamal Murray and Russell Westbrook combined for 39 points, eight rebounds, and eight assists at point guard. Of course, Aaron Gordon stole headlines, posting 22 points, 14 rebounds, and the game-winning three-pointer.

The Denver Nuggets were inconsistent against the spread this season, posting a 42-46-2 ATS Record, ranking them 19th in the NBA. They have a 47.7% cover percentage, a +3.5 margin of victory, and a +0.3 ATS +/- this season. In Game 1, Denver covered the spread (+10.5), hit over the total (229.5), and won outright (+373).

Regarding the Denver Nuggets injury report, (C) DaRon Holmes (Achilles) is out for the season.

Oklahoma City Thunder Preview

When Game 2 tips off for the Thunder, they’ll have the opportunity to level the series after dropping a crucial Game 1. Despite a strong start, even earning a 10-point halftime lead, the Thunder squandered their lead and were defeated late. Expect the Thunder to come out strong with ambitions of leveling the series before hitting the road.

The Thunder were impressive through most of Game 1, at least on the offensive side of the ball. They scored 119 points with 15 made threes, shooting 42.0% from the field and 34.9% from three. They succeeded with their playmaking, collecting 27 assists on 42 made field goals, but lost the rebounding battle by 20. When Game 2 tips off, the Nuggets must sort out their defensive shortcomings in the paint.

When Game 1 was tipped off, Thunder superstar Shai Gilgeous-Alexander stepped up to lead the team. He posted 33 points, 10 rebounds, eight assists, and two made threes on 46.2% shooting. Star sidekick Jalen Williams shot just 5-of-20 on the night, but veteran Alex Caruso stepped up to provide 20 points, six assists, and five made threes off the bench. Overall, the Thunder performed well, but their young stars must step up their game on both ends to win Game 2.

The Oklahoma City Thunder were the best team against the spread this season, posting a 55-29-4 ATS Record through the regular and postseason. They have a 65.5% cover percentage, a +12.7 margin of victory, and a +3.5 ATS +/- this season. In their Game 1 loss to the Nuggets, the Thunder failed against the spread, total, and moneyline.

Regarding the Oklahoma City Thunder injury report, (G) Nikola Topic (Knee) is out for the season.
