Boston Common Golf vs. The Bay Golf Club Intro

Boston Common didn’t win a single match in Season 1 of TGL.

Rory McIlroy’s team suffered four defeats and an overtime loss to finish bottom of the six-team league.

But after finally getting off the mark with a 7-5 victory over Los Angeles in its opening match of Season 2, McIlroy’s men are favorites to go on and lift the trophy.

“It’s been a long time coming for Keegan and I to get a win,” said a relieved McIlroy after beating LA.

“Lot of quality shots, a lot of birdies and eagles and Hammers thrown and bullets dodged. It was back and forth. It was certainly fun to play.”

They’ll bid to follow up using the same three-man team of McIlroy, Bradley and alternate Michael Thorbjornsen on Monday night.

The Bay lost its opener 7-4 to Season 1 champions Atlanta Drive so getting a first win takes on greater urgency.

This is Match 6 of Season 2 and in the outright betting, Boston Common leads the way at +275.

It’s then +280 Atlanta Drive, +400 New York Golf Club, +425 Los Angeles Golf Club, +500 The Bay Golf Club, +1600 Jupiter Links.

Player Form Guide

Boston Common Golf

Rory McIlroy

After a strangely subdued performance in the Dubai Desert Classic - an event where McIlroy had reeled off an astonishing 12 straight top 10s - he’ll be keen to get his teeth into this. He’ll have to cope with a nine-hour time difference but is used to coping with jet-lag. And surely taking on great friend Shane Lowry in Singles play will get the adrenaline pumping for McIlroy.

Michael Thorbjornsen

Thorbjornsen switches coasts after a disappointing missed cut at The American Express where he ballooned to a 78 in round three to fall short of the line. But the youngster’s putter was hot on his TGL debut - he made four putts of 10 feet or longer - and that makes him a dangerous weapon in this format.

Keegan Bradley

Bradley is also 0-for-1 this season after missing the cut in the Sony Open so he’ll be eager to make an impression here. Having Lowry in opposition may just fire him up although McIlroy’s presence on his own team rather conflicts that. Bradley brings energy always.

Shane Lowry

Lowry was a hero for Europe in the Ryder Cup so will enjoy returning to the team environment after a hugely disappointing loss in the Dubai Invitational where he doubled the final hole when leading. He followed that third spot with 26th in the Dubai Desert Classic but will be ramped for his Singles showdown with McIlroy.

Min Woo Lee

The Aussie kept the engine running with fifth and 14th in the Australian PGA Championship and Australian Open and then flew out of the blocks with a 62 on day one of The American Express before fading to 38th. This is his first start in Season 2 but he led several categories in Season 1: distance off the tee, driver swing speed and SG: Around The Green.

Wyndham Clark

Clark had a disappointing 2025 campaign on the PGA Tour but enjoyed his first foray into TGL. He worked hard in the off-season and saw some early results at last week’s American Express when tied 13th. He was particularly impressive over the first three days and he’s another player who thrives in this atmosphere.

The Bay Can Get Going

So far in TGL it’s paid to bet the favorite.

We’ve done that in our last four previews and landed the cash each time.

But this time the smart move could be to divert from that strategy and play the underdog Bay GC at -110.

McIlroy and Bradley haven’t really got going this season and Thorbjornsen’s missed cut at La Quinta was a disappointment.

There are enough doubts to suggest The Bay can pinch this.

Lowry, Lee and Clark have all shown flashes of good form so far in January and look a well-balanced line-up.

It could be the closest match so far and don’t rule out overtime but the nod, just, goes to The Bay.
