Just four matches into the 2026 TGL season, and the SoFi Cup standings already look bleak for the two teams involved in this week’s action.
Defeat for either will not be disastrous - not yet, at least - but the need for both to get points on the board is pressing.
Jupiter Links GC and Los Angeles Golf Club are both winless after their opening game and do not want to turn a poor start into a growing trend.
LA opened up with a 7-5 defeat to Boston Common Golf early in January and will take heart that it was a tight result.
Jupiter will be more concerned that it got dumped 8-3 by New York Golf Club.
The two teams did have something in common in their openers: neither utilised its hammer strategy at all well. Given that it is often the difference between winning and losing, it is a part of the game that both need to sharpen up on.
Tiger Woods, of course, continues to be sidelined for Jupiter, but his presence remains constant, and he will again be mic’d up to talk his way through the game.
Who will take the top ranking to the playoffs? Let’s find out.
| Jupiter Links GC | Los Angeles Golf Club |
|---|---|
| Player 1 - Max Homa | Player 1 - Justin Rose |
| Player 2 - Akshay Bhatia | Player 2 - Collin Morikawa |
| Player 3 - Kevin Kisner | Player 3 - Sahith Theegala |
Each match consists of two teams of three playing 15 holes across two sessions on a selection of custom-designed holes
Triples: Holes 1-9 - Each team of three playing in alternate-shot format
Singles: Holes 10-15 - one-vs-one, head-to-head competition for the entire hole. Each player from each team plays a total of two full holes
Modern match play is the scoring system. Each hole is worth 1pt
If the match is tied after 15 holes, Overtime (best-of-three, closest-to-the-pin) kicks in
The Hammer (each team gets three per match) allows teams to increase the points value of a single hole. The flag/towel is thrown down by a team official to signal its use and can be accepted or declined
Max Homa
The popular 35-year-old’s TGL career stats reveal that he has a longer average Driving Distance than anyone else in this week’s match - and no one has bettered his longest effort of 346.0 yards. He does, however, have the second-lowest Average Putt Made distance (5’2”) and has a poor single record. After eight games, he is winless on 0-4-4.
Akshay Bhatia
Playing as an alternate, Bhatia is yet to miss a fairway from the tee in TGL, but his putting is the weakest of all six players in action this week. The longest putt he has dropped is a woeful 3’1”. He should improve on that sooner rather than later, however, because TGL’s first left-hander has only played one game.
Kevin Kisner
Off the tee, Kisner is poor. He ranked fifth of this week’s six players for career Driving Accuracy and sixth for both Average Driving Distance and Longest Drive. He does have the best Average Putt Made mark in his team, but two of his opponents have a better number. He’s also just 2-4-4 in singles.

Justin Rose
The Englishman might be in his late 40s, but he remains committed to elite-level golf and has put himself through plenty of off-season work to hit 2026 running. He will have fond memories of this match-up in 2025 because he drained putts of 10’0” and 14’3” to earn points in a solid victory.
Collin Morikawa
The two-time major champion has a fine 4-2-6 record in singles, and he is yet to lose a point in singles in the regular season. He’ll take on Bhatia in the singles this time around. It should be the most competitive head-to-head in the match.
Sahith Theegala
Theegala will be taking Kisner on in the singles, and they will tackle the par-5 15th Stone & Steeple. The advantage will be massively in Theegala’s favour with a significant difference in explosive power. Theegala chipped in for an eagle from 70 feet in the first match of 2026, and he has both the best Average Putt Made (11’2”) and Longest Putt Made (28’7”) of this week’s six players.

TGL action might take place on the East Coast, but this tie should go to the West Coast outfit.
Consider this: last year, LA smashed Jupiter 12-1.
It wasn’t just a dominant victory. It was also the biggest win by any team all season.
There is also a further problem for Jupiter. Put simply: triples start the action.
LA has a historically good record in the triples and Jupiter does not.
Last year, LA led 5-0 through four holes, and it was easy progress thereafter.
If LA continues to show early form, it will put pressure on Jupiter, and that will impact on the team’s putting.
In its first match, Jupiter didn’t hole one putt outside 10 feet and just 33% inside that mark.
That’s a big problem if Jupiter is under early stress because it will be even more difficult to find the bottom of the hole.
West Coast is the call - take LA at -175 with Caesars Sportsbook.
