Season 2 of the TGL tees off with a bang as the two sides which contested last year’s Finals go head-to-head again in the SoFi Center.
The two games (a third wasn’t needed) were both decided by a single point, with Billy Horschel’s dramatic long putt for Atlanta Drive the iconic moment in Match 2.
The rematch acts as an appetizer for what’s to come as the rest of the schedule launches in early 2026.
As in Season 1, each team will play five matches in a round-robin league format.
The top two in the standings contest the playoffs which start with single-match elimination Semifinals before a best-of-three Finals Series, starting March 23.
Season 2 will feature a renovated, larger green complex and an expansion of virtual holes to “amplify teams’ risk-reward decisions”.
| New York Golf Club | Atlanta Drive GC |
|---|---|
| Player 1 - Matt Fitzpatrick | Player 1 - Patrick Cantlay |
| Player 2 - Xander Schauffele | Player 2 - Lucas Glover |
| Player 3 - Cameron Young | Player 3 - Billy Horschel |
Each match consists of two teams of three playing 15 holes across two sessions on a selection of custom-designed holes
Triples: Holes 1-9 - Each team of three playing in alternate-shot format
Singles: Holes 10-15 - One-vs-one, head-to-head competition for the entire hole. Each player from each team plays a total of two full holes
Modern match play is the scoring system. Each hole is worth 1pt
If the match is tied after 15 holes, Overtime (best-of-three, closest-to-the-pin) kicks in
The Hammer (each team gets three per match) allows teams to increase the points value of a single hole. The flag/towel is thrown down by a team official to signal its use and can be accepted or declined
Matt Fitzpatrick
The Englishman finished the season in scintillating form, beating Rory McIlroy in a playoff to win last month’s DP World Tour Championship in Dubai. That formed part of a run of eight top 10s in his final 12 worldwide starts of the year while Fitzpatrick also played a key role in Europe’s Ryder Cup win. The only non-America on the New York GC team, he’ll be confident of making a bigger impact in Season 2.
Xander Schauffele
Hampered by an early-season injury, Schauffele couldn’t repeat his double major-winning heroics of 2024 but still played well in the big events and added some spark to his 2025 with victory at October’s Baycurrent Classic in Japan (his 10th PGA Tour win). Schauffele finished tied 3rd for driving accuracy in Season 1 of TGL.
Cameron Young
Like the rest of his team, Young struggled early on in the SoFi Center before coming on strong when it mattered most. He ranked 2nd in driving distance and also holed the longest putt of Season 1 - a 38-footer. Young returns with a pep in his step after gaining his first PGA TOUR win in 2025 and emerging as top-scorer (alongside New York GC teammate Schauffele) for the US in the Ryder Cup at Brookline.

Patrick Cantlay
Not the most outgoing of characters, Cantlay brought balance to the team alongside his more ebullient teammates and that played a big part in Atlanta Drive’s title glory. The team won most Hammers and Cantlay was voted No.1 Hammer strategist, knowing better than anyone when to employ the modifier which can double or even triple a score on a hole. He also tied for the league lead in playoff Singles points with five. Cantlay didn’t have his best season on the PGA TOUR in 2025 but finished runner-up at the TOUR Championship.
Lucas Glover
The veteran of the Atlanta Drive GC team achieved the notable feat of hitting every fairway on every tee shot he struck in Season 1. On the PGA TOUR, he found some form in the summer with fifth at the John Deere and ninth at the Travelers but his postseason ended early at the BMW Championship.
Billy Horschel
Horschel looked a perfect fit for TGL and relished the atmosphere, frequently pumping up the crowd - who can forget his “Dirty Bird” dance! - and bringing big performances from his teammates. But Billy-Ho was far from just a cheerleader as he led the league with eight Singles points and hit every green in regulation during the regular season. Shortly after helping Atlanta Drive’s Season 1 triumph, Horschel missed six months of the campaign due to a hip injury. He returned in September and showed some decent signs with 11th in October’s Bank of Utah Championship.

New York was slow into its stride in Season 1 but not fatally so.
After starting with a 9-2 loss and immediately putting itself behind the 8-ball, the quartet of Fitzpatrick, Schauffele, Young and Rickie Fowler flourished.
After starting 1-3, New York rallied to book the No.4 seed in the playoffs and then beat No.1-seeded Los Angeles to reach the Finals.
Atlanta Drive got the better of them - just - but New York can turn the tables here.
One big key is that Justin Thomas doesn’t suit up for Atlanta after revealing last month that he had undergone hip surgery. There is no timescale for his return.
Without his energy and talent (JT didn’t lose a Singles hole in the regular season), the defending champions are there to be shot at.
Horschel is still playing his way back after a long layoff while Glover looks vulnerable (he was 157th for SG: Putting on the PGA TOUR last season).
As for New York, their trio of Fitzpatrick, Schauffele and Young all enjoyed strong finishes to the campaign and will be out for revenge after last year’s Finals defeat.
Overall, New York looks the bet here at -110 at bet365.
