This is a lineup that’s vulnerable to strikeouts facing deGrom, who is capable of making big-league hitters look foolish, so we’ll take our chances on the two-time Cy Young winner.

Javier Baez 2+ Strikeouts (+320) at bet365 Sportsbook

Baez is having what can only be described as a bounce-back year. This is a guy who hit .184 last season and hasn’t hit over .240 since 2021. Yet, he’s batting well over .300 and has been a key figure for the division-leading Tigers. However, Baez still hasn’t given up his free-swinging ways, so he’s still vulnerable to the strikeout. Even if multiple strikeout games have become a rare occurrence, they can still happen, especially with deGrom on the mound. Baez has 10 strikeouts in just 17 career at-bats against deGrom, which feels like a bad omen for Saturday’s game. Even if Baez has been heating up lately, he could be in line for a setback against deGrom.

He’s closer to averaging two strikeouts per inning than he is just one strikeout per inning. Of course, the team he’s facing also plays a role in our bet. The Red Sox are among the league leaders in strikeouts, averaging close to nine per game. Of course, they’ve been doing that against ordinary pitchers, not a strikeout artist like Ragans, who looks poised for another high strikeout total on Saturday.

Garrett Crochet Under 6.5 Strikeouts (-125) at bet365 Sportsbook

Compared to Ragans, Crochet might have a higher threshold to reach for strikeouts in this game. He’s been held to six strikeouts or fewer in half of his eight starts this year, including his last two. More importantly, he has a far more difficult task against the Royals. The Kansas City lineup has the second-fewest strikeouts in baseball, averaging just under seven per game. Unless Crochet can go deeper than five or six innings in this game, he might have a hard time collecting more than six strikeouts.

Bader has at least one hit in 10 of his last 11 games and is 9 for 19 (.474) with a 1.302 OPS thus far in May. He’s quietly among the hottest hitters in baseball, although he’s getting -135 to get one measly hit. This feels like a terrible oversight, so we have to take advantage.
