Every NFL offseason comes with its fair share of coaching rumors, even around some of the league’s most established names. While it’s highly unlikely that Kyle Shanahan, Aaron Glenn, or Todd Bowles are out of jobs by September, these are three potential names still on the chopping block.
Here’s a look at why these coaches may be fired or leave on their own before the beginning of next season.

Kyle Shanahan remains one of the most respected head coaches in football, but that respect comes with massive expectations. The San Francisco 49ers have been perennial contenders under Shanahan, but he has failed in the biggest moments.
This past season, San Francisco finished among the NFL’s best in yards per play and scoring offense. This was miraculous considering all their injuries.
However, Shanahan’s biggest hurdle continues to be the playoffs. Despite multiple playoff runs, the 49ers have not closed the deal during his tenure and won the Super Bowl.
San Francisco’s roster is expensive, veteran-heavy, and built to win now. If the front office doesn’t think Shanahan is the guy, they may move on from the coach ahead of the draft, but this isn’t likely.
Another unlikely scenario involves Shanahan leaving by choice. He remains a highly sought-after offensive mind, and there are still a few teams looking for head coaches.
Aaron Glenn has emerged as one of the most respected defensive coaches in the league, and this has given him plenty of chances to be a head coach.
Glenn was with the Jets this season as their head coach, but this franchise isn’t close to winning. If the coach thinks he can’t turn the franchise around, he may leave.
Glenn leaving isn’t likely, but it’s possible. It doesn’t appear like New York would consider firing him after one poor season.
Todd Bowles has quietly been one of the steadier head coaches in the NFL, especially considering the turnover he has on his coaching staff. However, Bowles’ team collapsed this season and it’s a cause for fire.
We’re past the point where coaches usually get fired, but it’s hard to rule it out with Bowles. If a great coach is available, Tampa Bay could look elsewhere.
Bowles has long faced criticism for inconsistent teams. The Buccaneers have consistently won the NFC South, but they haven’t taken the next step. The team has benefited from a weak division.
The Buccaneers were in a prime spot to win the division this season, but they lost multiple games down the stretch of the season. It was surprising to see Bowles keep his job, but now that he is here, he should be the coach to start the year.
On Kalshi, Shanahan and Glenn both have a 10% chance not to be back next season. Bowles is currently sitting at 7%. At this point, it’s not likely any team will make a coaching change, but it’s always possible.
If you take a small chance on saying a coach won’t be back and it happens, it could be very lucrative on various prediction markets.
