The new WNBA season continues tonight with one game on the schedule, the Dallas Wings vs. Seattle Storm at College Park Center in Arlington, TX (start time 8 p.m. EST). Along with the traditional betting line, you can bet on WNBA player props with your favorite sportsbook.
Bettors expecting more from Paige Bueckers in her WNBA debut were left disappointed in her final stat line: 10 points, 7 rebounds, 2 assists. Will the under be the way to go tonight? Let’s explore prop bets for Bueckers as well as a few other players from both teams.
As the No. 1 pick in the draft, I did not think we’d see her take so few shots in her debut game last Friday. But she was just 3-6 in the first half and missed all four shots she attempted in the second. It’s not unusual for a rookie to struggle in her debut.
But the question now is whether she’ll bounce back.
Based on what we saw in Seattle’s opener, the Storm are going to struggle on the defensive end of the court. Minnesota has one of the best defenses in the league. So, if Seattle’s defense continues to struggle, Bueckers will have a much better game.
At +100, there is certainly value in the OVER.
Bueckers was not big on the boards in college; she averaged 4.4 per game in her final season. But she had a respectable day in her debut with seven; Dallas won the rebound battle 33-31 vs. Minnesota. Seattle lost the rebound battle in their opener, 29-38.
I expect to see a better all-around effort from Bueckers in this game. If Seattle is as bad (or just close to) as Phoenix made them look, Bueckers will have 5+ boards in the first half.
When she had 12 points at the half against Minnesota, it looked like she was destined for a 20+ point night. But then she went 1-5 in the second half and was just 2-2 at the free throw line. Going cold against a solid Minnesota defense is not shocking.
But the Seattle defense is not solid. She averaged 21 ppg against them last year when the Storm defense was good. Based on what we saw in Seattle’s opener, that is not the case this season.
I wouldn’t be shocked if she got 20+ tonight.
Diggins has always been a capable scoring threat, just not the primary one. But that is exactly what she is now. I do not expect her to score 20+ points in back-to-back games. But against a Dallas team that just let Minnesota score 99, she’ll get enough open looks to score 17+ points.
Williams averaged 10.3 points per game last year in 12 games. In her first four, she scored seven or less. Once she started shooting more, she scored more. But while the team is focused on getting Skylar Diggins and Nneka Ogwumike going, she will not get those shots.
Like almost everyone else on the team, Magbegor had a terrible day from the floor in Seattle’s season opener (1-9 for two points). She averaged just over nine shot attempts a game (like she took against Phoenix in the opener), but often made four or five.
Against a defensively challenged team like Dallas, I’d expect her to shoot better than 1-9. But she only averaged 10 ppg against them last year. Until there is evidence that the Storm has things figured out, I don’t see her scoring more than ten.
