The WNBA is back in action after taking Hump Day off with a pair of games: the New York Liberty hosts the Washington Mystics, and the Golden State Valkyries take on the Mercury in Phoenix. With these matchups, it will be an excellent night for WNBA Player Props.
Jones has been getting it done on the boards this season, averaging 11.3 per game (second best in the league behind Angel Reese, 12.3). She had 11+ in the prior game vs. Washington and in three of her last four. This game will make it four of her last five.
Sykes has scored OVER 19.5 points in six of seven games this season. This included a 20-point night against the Liberty, where she shot 5-18 (27.8%) from the floor and 9-10 from the free throw line.
She’ll probably still get around 18 shot attempts tonight like she did the first time these two teams met. But don’t count on a big night from Skyes at the free row line this time to help her go OVER her total.
My initial reaction was to go with the OVER here because Iriafen has been playing a more prominent role on the offensive end of the court lately. But the young rookie had trouble making her shots the last time these two teams met.
New York has been as tough on the road to score on as they are at home. While Iriafen is having a solid rookie year, she’s not quite ready to take on and beat the Liberty defense.
To Make 3+ Threes
Her three-point percentage this season is not significant (23.4%), but after watching her go 45.2% from behind the line, we know she can do better. She has made 2+ in four of eight games this season, but hit zero in two of her last three games.
You can take that as a sign she will not make more than two, or take it as a sign that she’s due. Against a team ranked No. 10 in the WNBA in opposing teams’ three-point percentage (37.7%), she’ll have a breakout game.
Satou Sabally, over 21.5 points
With Alyssa Thomas out again, Sabally will become an even bigger part of the offense. She’s taking close to 20 shots in a game with Thomas out and has recorded nights of 26, 24, and 15 points. Since Thomas is out, I expect Sabally to put the team on her shoulders and lead Phoenix to a big win. She’ll take 20+ shots and make enough to go OVER 21.5 points.
Satou Sabally to make the first basket
First to score for Phoenix
For most teams, this market is a crap shoot with no patterns at all to help you out. But Sabally has made the first shot in a game twice this season and has been the first to make a basket for Phoenix twice.
Golden State has made the first basket three times, but only once on the road.
No one has stepped up to take charge on the offensive end of the court, but there have been a couple of early patterns. Janelle Salaun has made the first basket in a game twice; Kayla Thornton made the first in a game once, but the first for Golden State twice.
