Best MLB Bets Today May 29

We love betting on the over during the MLB season, and tonight’s slate of games brings us two great chances to do so. The first comes from a game between the A’s and Blue Jays, while the other is a battle featuring the Tampa Bay Rays and Houston Astros. We’ll share why we like both games to be high-scoring, as well as one other bet we’ll be locking in.

The odds we use are taken from Caesars Sportsbook. If you’d like to try Caesars, use promo code WSNDYW to claim a “Bet $1, Get Ten 100% Profit Boost Tokens” offer.

Atlanta Braves vs. Philadelphia Phillies (1:05 PM EST)

Run LineSpreadMoneylineTotal
Braves+1.5 (-170)+122Over 8.5 (+100)
Phillies-1.5 (+143)-145Under 8.5 (-120)

PICK: Braves ML (+122) at Caesars Sportsbook

Phillies starter Cristopher Sanchez (4-1, 3.17 ERA, 1.26 WHIP) is having another solid season, but he’ll be facing a familiar foe tonight. The lefty has not done well against the Braves over his career, with Atlanta hitters combining to post a .338 average and .978 OPS over 68 at-bats.

The Braves have been settling in at the plate as of late, and now have Ronald Acuna Jr. back off the IL. The 2023 NL MVP hasn’t been showing signs of rust over his first few games back, and his presence has already given the lineup a massive boost. We like him to lead a big offensive effort this afternoon.

Once Sanchez exits, he’ll turn things over to a bullpen that has been hit hard over the last week. They’ll also be without a key long reliever in Taijuan Walker, who will be rested for an upcoming spot start.

We trust Atlanta starter AJ Smith-Shawver (3-2, 3.67 ERA, 1.42 WHIP) and a bullpen that has been lights out over the last couple of weeks.

Athletics vs. Toronto Blue Jays (7:07 PM EST)

Run LineSpreadMoneylineTotal
Athletics+1.5 (-165)+122Over 8.5 (-105)
Blue Jays-1.5 (+140)-145Under 8.5 (-115)

PICK: Over 8.5 (-105) at Caesars Sportsbook

The A’s have been losing a lot of games over the last month, but that’s not due to their offense. The lineup has been consistently producing this season, and has a .284 average over the previous week. Brent Rooker and Jacob Wilson are both playing like All-Stars, while Lawrence Butler is batting .429 with two home runs over the last week.

The A’s will face Jose Berrios (1-2, 4.22 ERA, 1.36 WHIP) to start tonight’s game. The righty has regressed badly in 2025 as he struggles to miss bats. He’s been especially vulnerable when starting at home, going 0-1 with a 5.19 ERA and an ugly .276 OBA.

Berrios will be matched up opposite Jacob Lopez (0-2, 2.57 ERA, 1.57 WHIP) on the mound tonight. The journeymen reliever rejoined the team last week to make a spot start and delivered an absolute gem. He held the Phillies to just one run on three hits over seven innings, though the bullpen would go on to blow the game.

We don’t think Lopez can replicate his efforts tonight. Even if he does, he’ll be handing things over to one of the worst bullpens in baseball.

Tampa Bay Rays vs. Houston Astros (8:10 PM EST)

Run LineSpreadMoneylineTotal
Rays+1.5 (-225)-105Over 8 (-120)
Astros-1.5 (+185)-115Under 8 (+100)

PICK: Over 8 (-120) at Caesars Sportsbook

The Astros and Rays have been two of the hottest teams in the league over the last couple of weeks. Their success has been driven by their offense, with the Rays (.855) and Astros (.909) posting impressive OPS numbers over the last week.

These hot lineups will be facing a pair of young pitchers who have been awful in May. Rays starter Shane Baz (4-3, 4.94 ERA, 1.39 WHIP) is 1-3 with a 7.82 ERA this month, while Astros’ starter Ryan Gusto (3-2, 4.58 ERA, 1.53 WHIP) is 0-1 with a 9.72 ERA.

Expect to see a lot of runs scored early on in this one, leading to an easy cover of this total.
