NBA Player Props and Best Bets: Derik Queen, Norman Powell & More Picks for Friday, Feb. 6

It’s time to close out the week with a bang, with my best NBA player prop picks for Friday.

Austin Reaves returned to the floor for only the second time since Christmas to match Joel Embiid’s 35 points and guide the Los Angeles Lakers to a victory over the Philadelphia 76ers, while the Charlotte Hornets improved to 14-1 with their current starting lineup by taking down the Houston Rockets.

There are six matchups across the league today, headlined by the Detroit Pistons hosting the New York Knicks.

Here are my top NBA player prop picks and bets for Friday, Jan. 6.

Norman Powell Under 2.5 Threes (+100) at FanDuel Sportsbook

Powell played the Boston Celtics twice this year and only made one three-pointer in both of those matchups, one time in three attempts, and the other in 11. That puts him at 2-14 (14.3 percent), well below his season averages of 2.8 made threes per game on 39.2 percent long-range shooting.

The Celtics haven’t done a great job of defending the perimeter, but they held their opponents to 33.5 percent shooting from deep, the third-worst mark in the league, over the last few weeks. Powell also went under this line in five straight games, and there seems to be lots of value on his under.

Kyle Kuzma Under 6.5 Rebounds (-108) at FanDuel Sportsbook

Kuzma has taken on a larger role for the Milwaukee Bucks in light of Giannis Antetokounmpo’s recent calf injury, and he played at least 31 minutes in six straight games. He went over this number four times during that stretch, but he also went under in two of his last three.

The one-time NBA champ split the over/under in two matchups with the Indiana Pacers, who allowed the fourth-most rebounds per game. However, they rose to 22nd over the last few weeks, and Kuzma has an inconsistent motor and focus when he’s on the floor.

Derik Queen Under 3.5 Assists (+118) at FanDuel Sportsbook

Queen, the 13th pick in the draft, flashed his playmaking chops in two matchups with the Minnesota Timberwolves in early December when he recorded five and six assists. However, he went under this line in four of his last six games and has spent an inconsistent amount of time on the court.

Queen had seven assists in his last game, but he also played just 22 minutes. With games of 18 and 19 minutes during that same three-game stretch, I can’t trust him to spend enough time on the floor to cash the over against a solid defensive team in Minnesota.

John Collins Over 16.5 Points (+100) at FanDuel Sportsbook

With Ivica Zubac recently becoming a member of the Indiana Pacers, Collins should see plenty of time on the floor in tonight’s matchup with the Sacramento Kings. He split the over/under at four apiece over the last eight games, but he also played 28 minutes per game during that stretch, which he could easily exceed tonight.

The Kings have been terrible on defense all season, and they allowed the fourth-most points per game over the last few weeks of play. James Harden won’t be there to dominate the shots, which also means Collins should have more looks at the basket.

Ausar Thompson Under 5.5 Rebounds (-114) at FanDuel Sportsbook

Thompson averaged 6.0 rebounds per game, went over this line in four straight outings, and snatched seven rebounds in 20 minutes in his only previous matchup with the New York Knicks. Sounds like a can’t-miss, right?

The 23-year-old’s excellence as a perimeter defender means that he could spend the majority of the game shadowing Jalen Brunson, taking him away from advantageous rebounding positions. Karl-Anthony Towns could also miss tonight’s matchup with the Detroit Pistons, which would put an even better rebounder, Mitchell Robinson, on the floor for longer.
