A new week has arrived, and I’m kicking it off with another edition of my best NBA player prop picks for Monday.
The Golden State Warriors shocked the Denver Nuggets despite 35 points, 20 rebounds, and 12 assists from Nikola Jokic, while Tyrese Maxey dropped 39 points and eight assists as the Philadelphia 76ers took down the Minnesota Timberwolves on the road.
There are only three games today, but one of them features teams with two of the three best records in the league: the San Antonio Spurs and the Detroit Pistons.
Here are my NBA player prop picks and bets for Monday, Feb. 23.

Cunningham is in for a tall task against the San Antonio Spurs and Victor Wembanyama, who ranked seventh in points in the paint allowed per game. Cunningham doesn’t typically do much damage from the outside, so he’ll be in dangerous territory if he ventures inside the arc with the 7-foot-5 Frenchman patrolling the interior.
While Cunningham scored 42 points against the New York Knicks a few days ago, he also went under this line in many high-profile matchups against teams with strong defenses, including the Boston Celtics, Houston Rockets, and Phoenix Suns, all in January, and split the over/under with the Knicks in February. I expect him to come in somewhere just below this number.

Wemby has had some trouble getting over this line in his matchups with teams that are among the best in the league, which the Pistons are, and that have strong interior players, which Jalen Duren qualifies as. With that said, he and the Spurs have gotten up for big games, and this could be a time where he has his leash extended and gets to push to 33 minutes of action.
Wemby averaged 11.2 rebounds per game and went over in both games coming out of the All-Star break. This will be a tough matchup for him, but I like the intensity that he brings to important matchups and am willing to back him in this spot.

Clayton Jr., a rookie and reigning national champion at Florida, scored eight and nine points in two games since he was traded to the Memphis Grizzlies. More importantly, he played at least 25 minutes in both contests, and he only shot 1-11 (9.1 percent) from three-point territory in those games.
Clayton Jr. hasn’t shot the ball well as a rookie, but that’s where his strength as a player is. He’s also facing a Sacramento Kings defense that allowed the third-most points per game, and he’s clearly going to be given opportunities to lead the offense as Memphis dives deeper into its rebuilding process.

Jaren Jackson Jr. is out for the season, Jusuf Nurkic is out tonight, and Keyonte George is questionable. That means that Markkanen, who sacrificed some shots recently, could be back in the catbird seat for the Utah Jazz as they prepare to take on the Houston Rockets.
The Rockets allowed the fourth-fewest points per game, but Markkanen scored 18 and 29 points in their previous matchups this season. He also went over in four of six outings in February and should get lots of shots with his teammates’ lack of availability.

Partly because of their pace of play and partly because of their lack of personnel, the Jazz allowed the most points per game in the entire NBA. However, that didn’t help Sheppard backers in his matchups with this team, as he scored just nine points in both of their previous encounters.
Sheppard went under on Saturday night, ending a four-game streak of overs. He’s getting about 25 minutes of action per night, but he hasn’t shown enough consistency to warrant belief on a nightly basis, regardless of the opponent.
