My +120 Pick for Arsenal vs. Tottenham Hotspur

Back Arsenal to win to nil. The Gunners are rock-solid defensively and Tottenham Hotspur will struggle to find the back of the net at the Emirates Stadium in this north London derby.

Arsenal’s Defense Makes Them Premier League Title Favorites

The Premier League title race is not done and dusted yet. Arsenal appeared to be streaking away in top spot a few weeks back, but in the round of fixtures immediately prior to the November international break they found themselves pegged back.

Arsenal could only manage a 2-2 draw with Sunderland before the latest set of World Cup qualifiers. Mikel Arteta’s men went 1-0 down at the Stadium of Light, but an improved second-half performance saw them take a 2-1 lead. However, there was one last twist to come as Sunderland struck a dramatic equalizer in stoppage time.

That opened the door to Manchester City and Liverpool, but because those two teams were facing each other at the Etihad Stadium, only one of them was able to take advantage. In the end it was City who did just that, triumphing 3-0 in front of their own supporters to close the gap to Arsenal to four points.

City have successfully chased down the Gunners in the past, so there is a chance that the latter could get nervous - especially as Arsenal have not won the title for more than two decades. Moreover, by the time this match kicks off on Sunday, City may well be a solitary point adrift of the summit of the standings.

Still, Arsenal have been the best-performing side in the division so far this season and the bookies have them down as title favourites. A draw away to Sunderland was hardly a disastrous result given their opponents are currently in the top four.

Moreover, Arsenal had won each of their previous five league outings. That streak was always going to come to an end at some point. Having said that, it is important that Arsenal bounce back as quickly as possible.

Tottenham Hotspur’s Away Record Gives Cause for Optimism

Tottenham Hotspur have had a mixed start to the season. They head into the weekend in fifth place with a return of 18 points from 11 games. Broadly speaking, that is a decent start for a team under new management, and one which finished 17th last term.

The problem is, the vast majority of Tottenham’s points (13 to be precise) have come away from home. No team has as good a record on the road, but the flip side of that is Tottenham’s lowly position of 19th in the home table. Given their fans pay sky-high prices to watch their side at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, that has bred discontent.

Spurs at least avoided defeat in their last home assignment, a 2-2 draw with Manchester United. They were flat in the first half but improved after the break, only to concede a last-gasp equalizer from a corner. Had they held out, Tottenham would be six points behind Arsenal right now.

Thomas Frank deserves the benefit of the doubt, however. He inherited a dysfunctional team that was far too easy to play against. Spurs are made of steelier stuff now. They need to improve their creation and attacking output, but Frank has laid solid foundations.

“We are searching to find the right balance up front and I think when we look at the game back, I think there was positive bits going forward,” Frank said after the draw with Manchester United before the latest round of internationals.

“We constantly work on the relationship and try to improve it with the players and try to find what is exactly the right blend, but I think there were small steps in the right direction.”

Arsenal Can Edge Out Their Adversaries in Crunch Clash

Tottenham's away record provides a source of optimism for this north London derby, but there is no doubt that Arsenal are the better side right now. That does not mean a home win is inevitable, but it does mean that Spurs must produce a strong showing to get anything from their latest trip to the Emirates Stadium.

Spurs have had little in the way of recent success in this fixture: the last six contests between these adversaries have produced one draw and five Arsenal wins. Meanwhile Spurs have won just one of the last nine head-to-head clashes, while Arsenal have been victorious on seven occasions.

We expect the latest edition of the north London derby to follow that pattern. Previous matches between this pair have been thrilling and high-scoring, but this one will likely be tighter. That is in part because Spurs have toughened up since 2024/25, when they were far too open without the ball.

It is also because of Arsenal's own strengths. The Gunners may have conceded twice to Sunderland earlier this month, but that came after a remarkable run of eight clean sheets on the bounce in all competitions. With just five goals conceded in the league, Arsenal have by far the best defensive record among England’s top 20 clubs.

With all that in mind, a home win to nil is the way to go when Arsenal face Tottenham this weekend.
