Back Manchester United to beat Nottingham Forest. Ruben Amorim’s side are in fine form and they can pick up another three points this weekend.

Ruben Amorim is in unchartered territory. For the first time in his current job, the Manchester United manager has guided his team to three consecutive victories in the Premier League. After those defeats of Sunderland, Liverpool and Brighton & Hove Albion, things are starting to look up at Old Trafford. All of a sudden, United are sixth in the table and just two points off second.
What has changed? Amorim would doubtless argue that United's underlying numbers were pretty solid in the first few weeks of the campaign, even if results were a mixed bag at best. Confidence in the camp is on the rise and that has clearly helped too.
Perhaps the biggest change from last season, though, is the new-look frontline. Marcus Rashford, Alejandro Garnacho, Rasmus Hojlund and Jadon Sancho all departed in the summer. In came Benjamin Sesko, Bryan Mbeumo and Matheus Cunha, with Mason Mount now back in the frame after an injury-hit couple of years.
The jury is still out on Sesko, but Mbeumo and Cunha have been instant hits. Their ball-carrying ability and dynamism is a big improvement on what came before. Both players had already shown themselves to be capable of scoring goals and impacting games in the Premier League, so there was no need for an adaptation period.
Cunha and Mbeumo also have the right personality to play for United. Old Trafford is not a place for shrinking violets, especially in the post-Alex Ferguson era where success has been minimal and fleeting. Mbeumo and Cunha are fearless footballers who are happy to take the ball in difficult situations and do what they can to help the team.
Only Crystal Palace have created more expected goals than United up to now. Amorim’s men are fashioning opportunities on a regular basis, which was not the case last term. There is room for improvement defensively, but the goalkeeper Senne Lammens has started well. Whisper it, but United might have turned a corner.

Nottingham Forest are already on their third manager of the season. Nuno Espirito Santo’s falling-out with the sporting director Edu meant his departure was a matter of when, not if. His replacement Ange Postecoglou lasted for just 39 days after failing to win any of his eight matches at the helm.
Sean Dyche took the reins earlier this month. It is an appointment that signals a desire to return to the sort of defensive solidity and counter-attacking football that brought Forest European football last term. Dyche kick-started his tenure with a victory on the continent, as Forest beat Porto 2-0 in the Europa League last week.
However, the East Midlanders were brought back down to earth with a thud on Sunday, going down to a 2-0 defeat by Bournemouth. The Cherries are flying high in second spot, so perhaps defeat was inevitable for Forest, but that result has left them in the bottom three. If they stay there for a few more weeks, Forest fans will start to worry about a sustained relegation battle.
There is still enough quality in the roster for Forest to finish mid-table, and Dyche has at least had a full week on the training pitch to prepare for the Manchester United game. But the former Burnley and Everton head coach has no doubt realized that he has a fight on his hands at the City Ground.
“There's a lot of work to be done,” Dyche said after the loss to Bournemouth at the Vitality Stadium. “I didn't come into this job naively, the league table does tell a story so I'm never thinking there wasn't work to be done but it showed particularly in the first half today.”

Nottingham Forest are the lowest scorers in the Premier League. They have made the net bulge just five times, fewer even than West Ham United and Wolverhampton Wanderers. They are also without a victory in the top flight since the opening weekend of the campaign.
Dyche will eventually make Forest a harder team to play against, but that process takes time. In that sense, this is a good time for Manchester United to be facing Forest. Whereas the latter are short on belief right now, United are full of it.
There have been numerous false dawns at Old Trafford in recent years, so no one should get ahead of themselves yet. But United have played some excellent football in recent weeks, and they deserved to beat each of Sunderland, Liverpool and Brighton.
We expect them to triumph again this weekend. United should cause Forest problems going forward, while the hosts are likely to continue to struggle offensively. United are also starting games well at the moment; if they do that here, Forest’s fragile confidence will be dealt another blow.
United are in fine form and Forest are not. An away win is on the cards when these two teams go head-to-head this weekend.
