After fading the Texas Rangers and Los Angeles Angels top of their orders last night, we go back to the well on Wednesday as another pair of productive pitchers are set to take the mound. Before their opening pitch takes place, we fade the Philadelphia Phillies star studded offense as they are set to face off against Adrian Houser who excels at avoiding contact.

Even though the Texas Rangers have struggled to remain in contention for the AL West division title, it has not been at the fault of Nathan Eovaldi as he has been dominant since the start of the regular season. Heading into Wednesday night’s contest against the Los Angeles Angels, Eovaldi is averaging an ERA of 1.50, a WHIP of 0.875, a FIP of 3.57, and more than one Strikeout per Inning Pitched.
Against the Angels, Eovaldi will have the opportunity to strengthen his claim for the AL Cy Young award as he faces off against an offense who ranks below league average in Contact Rate, RBIs, Total Runs Scored, and in On Base Percentage. Especially with his back end excelling in coverage as the Rangers defense leads the league in Defensive Efficiency and in Fielding Percentage.
As for Jose Soriano, the Angels pitchers also finds himself in a favorable position to thrive as he is set to battle it out against a Rangers offense who ranks equally as poor in the same previously mentioned offensive metrics. Expect the Rangers to continue to struggle with making contact as Soriano takes the mound averaging a FIP of 3.57 and less than one Hit Allowed per Inning Pitched.

After failing to play at a competitive level last year, the Chicago White Sox offense have carried over their struggles into this season as their lineup ranks near dead last in Team Total Hits, On Base Percentage, and in Slugger Percentage. Their inability to make contact hurts their chances of scoring as the White Sox also rank 27th overall in RBIs and in Total Runs Scored.
Unfortunately for the White Sox, their struggles on offense are poised to persist as they face off against Taijuan Walker who excels at avoiding contact and keeping opposing runners out of scoring position. As of writing, Walker is averaging an ERA of 3.84 and less than one Hit Against per inning. His defense also helps limit the amount of contact variance in his starts as the Phillies rank top-3 in Fielding Percentage.
On the other side of the field, Adrian Houser has been one of the White Sox lone sources of production as he is currently averaging an ERA of 2.10 and a FIP of 3.29. Even with his defense failing to play at a high level, Houser has been able to keep opposing runners off the bases with his own individual production as he is also averaging less than one Hit Allowed per Inning Pitched.

Arizona Diamondbacks vs. Detroit Tigers - Ryne Nelson vs. Chris Paddack - With Chris Paddack averaging an ERA of 4.95 and over one Hit per Inning Pitched, expect the Detroit Tigers pitcher’s struggles on the mound to continue to persist as he faces off against an Arizona offense who ranks above league average in Contact Rate and in Slugger Percentage.
Miami Marlins vs. St. Louis Cardinals - Cal Quantrill vs. Miles Mikolas - After being held scoreless in last night’s contest against Miami, positive regression looms large over the St. Louis Cardinals offense as they face off against Cal Quantrill who is averaging an ERA of 5.05, a WHIP of 1.327, and a FIP of 4.22.
