NBA Player Props and Best Bets: Cooper Flagg, Joel Embiid & More Picks for Thursday, Feb. 5

As the countdown to Super Bowl LX continues, I’m back with another edition of my best NBA player prop picks for Thursday.

Jalen Brunson went off for 42 points, nine assists, and eight rebounds in the New York Knicks’ double-overtime victory over the Denver Nuggets last night, marking their eighth straight victory. Trey Murphy also poured in 44 points, six rebounds, and six assists, but the Milwaukee Bucks still found a way to beat the New Orleans Pelicans.

Thursday’s lineup includes an exciting stylistic clash between the red-hot Charlotte Hornets and the steady Houston Rockets, as well as the Los Angeles Lakers against the Philadelphia 76ers.

Brandon Miller Under 2.5 Threes (+114) at FanDuel Sportsbook

The Houston Rockets rank fifth in made threes allowed per game, and Miller went under this line in three of four matchups with the other teams in the top five. He also just went 2-12 from long range in his last outing against the Pelicans on Monday.

The Rockets have tons of size, length, and athleticism in their lineup, and they cover lots of space, making it difficult for their opponents. The Hornets played excellent offense recently, but they’re also taking a serious step up in competition as they travel to Houston.

Cooper Flagg Under 23.5 Points (-114) at FanDuel Sportsbook

Flagg was playing out of his mind last week, becoming the first teenager in NBA history to score at least 30 points in three straight games. He scored 36, 34, and 49 points in his last three games, and his reward is getting to face the San Antonio Spurs in an in-state matchup.

The Spurs ranked fifth in points allowed per game over the last few weeks, and they have this 7-foot-5 deterrent named Victor Wembanyama patrolling the interior. Flagg hasn’t backed down from a challenge yet, but he’s also about to get one of the NBA’s literal tallest tests when he hits the floor on Thursday evening.

Embiid went over this line in seven of his last eight games, and the purple and gold ranked 22nd in points in the paint allowed per game over their last 15 outings. So why am I backing Embiid to cash the under? I’m so glad that you asked.

With Austin Reaves returning to the lineup for the Lakers, their offense should get the shot in the arm it sorely missed over the last month. That domino effect should lead to them playing with more defensive intensity and Embiid going under his projected line.

Alex Sarr Over 6.5 Rebounds (-158) at FanDuel Sportsbook

The Detroit Pistons are one of the best rebounding teams in basketball, but this line is slightly disrespectful to a 7-footer who averaged 7.7 rebounds per game. Sarr is one week removed from grabbing 17 rebounds against the Bucks and also had 15 during his only previous matchup with the Pistons on Nov. 10.

The second-year center went over this line in five of his last eight games and gets to play lots of minutes per game, so long as the Washington Wizards aren’t blown off the floor. Yesterday’s trade for Anthony Davis and D’Angelo Russell also means that there aren’t as many bodies waiting for minutes, and Sarr should see plenty of action tonight.

Isaiah Collier Over 11.5 Assists (+114) at FanDuel Sportsbook

Does it sound ridiculous to take a player who averaged 7.0 assists and 24.4 minutes per game over 11.5 assists? Absolutely. However, the Utah Jazz only had seven players available for their last outing, one that resulted in Collier playing every single second of a 48-minute game, and they appear to be in the same position heading into tonight’s matchup with the Atlanta Hawks.

Collier has tremendous playmaking instincts and logged 22, yes, 22 assists in Tuesday’s win over the Indiana Pacers. Now, he’ll face the Hawks, who ranked 22nd in assists allowed per game and let Collier record seven assists in 25 minutes when they faced off on Nov. 13.
