Patrick Mahomes has lost three games in a row for the first time in his NFL career
Cam Skattebo led the New York Giants backfield with 11 rush attempts in week two
The Giants' defensive line ranks below league average in Def Pass Rush Win Rate
Patrick Mahomes heads into Sunday night in uncharted territory as he has now lost his last three games in a row for the first time in his career. Fortunately for the former NFL MVP, positive regression looms large as he faces off against the New York Giants who struggle to generate pressure. This will result in a cleaner pocket for Mahomes, increasing his chances of driving down the field.

Do not let the Kansas City Chiefs' 0-2 start fool you, they are still one of the top contenders to win the Super Bowl as they have been competitive in their losses. Patrick Mahomes has managed to play at a high level as the Chiefs' star quarterback heads into week three ranked above league average in Quarterback EPA per play and in PFF Grade.
In Sunday’s contest against the New York Giants, Mahomes will have a great opportunity to build on his momentum as he faces off against a defense who ranks near dead last in Def EPA. Especially when he will have more time in the pocket to operate and let his plays develop as the Giants' defensive line currently resides near the bottom of the board in Def Pass Rush Win Rate.
On the other side of the field, the Giants' offensive line have struggled to hold their ground as they rank below league average in Pass Protection and in Run Block. This will allow the Chiefs to generate pressure at a consistent rate which will lessen the quality of Russell Wilson’s throws. With Wilson expected to struggle, the Giants will be prone to early outs which will lead to an uptick in the number of offensive possessions for the Chiefs.

With the Giants' front seven struggling to stop the run as their below league average mark in Run Defense Win Rate indicates, the Chiefs' ground game are also in a position to round back into form after a slow start to the year. Isaiah Pacheco has yet to find his footing this season as the Chiefs' running back ranks near the bottom of the board in Rushing Yards Over Expected per carry.
With the Chiefs' ground game expected to play at a competitive level, this will open up the field for the Chiefs' pass catchers as the Giants will be forced to crash down their linebackers to help plug the gaps in the trenches. This will lead to higher quality passing lanes for Mahomes to exploit which will increase his chances of moving the ball down the field through the air.

While Russell Wilson did look like his former Super Bowl-winning self in week two’s matchup against Dallas, it’s worth noting the quality of defense that he faced as the Cowboys rank 29th overall in Def EPA. Wilson still struggles to move the needle with just his individual production as he sits in the bottom half of the board in Quarterback Efficiency and in EPA per play.
As for the Giants' ground game, Cam Skattebo has potentially dethroned Tyrone Tracy Jr. for the starting role in week two as he unexpectedly led the team in rush attempts while averaging over four yards per carry. Should Skattebo help elevate the Giants' offense as a whole, then that will help lessen the amount of variance in their contests which increases their chances of winning.
