Jonathan Taylor had 123 rushing yards and a touchdown in last week’s win over the Cardinals
With 603 rushing yards through six games, Taylor leads the NFL in rushing, with James Cook the only rusher within 100 yards of Taylor’s lead
The Chargers have allowed a 100-yard rusher in back-to-back games
Six weeks into the NFL season, Jonathan Taylor of the Colts is the NFL’s leading rusher. He’s fresh off a game in which he ran for 123 yards and a touchdown against the Cardinals. Needless to say, Taylor’s success is a big reason why the Colts are 5-1. In Week 7, both Taylor and the Colts will be challenged by a road trip to face the Los Angeles Chargers. Since this is one of the biggest games of the week and Taylor has been one of the league’s top performers, it’s the perfect occasion to make some prop bets involving Taylor.
Naturally, Taylor has become the clear favorite to lead the NFL in rushing this season. However, he’s currently in a tough battle with Puka Nacua of the Rams as the front-runner for NFL Offensive Player of the Year honors. More importantly, since Taylor has helped Indy to that 5-1 start, the Colts are now heavy favorites to win the AFC South.
With Taylor being an obvious target for prop bets this week, we took a close look at his recent track record and the Chargers' defense before picking out our three favorite prop bets involving Taylor. For these bets, we used odds from bet365 Sportsbook. Use our promo code WSN365 to sign up for a new bet365 account and get $200 in bonus bets after placing a $5 wager.

It’s tempting to take a chance on Taylor to score multiple touchdowns at +350, as he’s done that twice in six games this season. However, getting -150 odds for a player like Taylor feels like a safe bet. These odds are far more lucrative than Taylor’s anytime touchdown odds last week, so the value is there.
It’s a little surprising that Taylor didn’t find the end zone in three of his first four games of the season. He’s had two games in which he’s scored three touchdowns to balance out the games in which he didn’t score. However, things should settle into a more predictable pattern for him. With the Chargers giving up seven rushing touchdowns in six games, it’s a safe bet that Taylor will touch paint in Week 7.

On the heels of a 123-yard performance last week, this also feels like a safe bet. That was his third 100-yard rushing game of the season. To be fair, Taylor has also had three games in which he’s been held well below 88.5 rushing yards. He seems to either be well over or well below this total.
The deciding factor in this bet is the Los Angeles defense. The Chargers have allowed 100-yard rushers in back-to-back games. In four straight games, the leading rusher for the team playing the Chargers reached at least 79 yards. But some of those backs didn’t get as many carries as Taylor will likely get, nor are they the same quality of back. Given the trouble the Chargers have had stopping the run in recent weeks, it’s best to back Taylor for this bet.

This is another bet where Taylor has been split through six games. In all three games in which he’s gained at least 100 yards, he’s had a long rush of 30 yards or more. In the other three games, Taylor’s longest rush in the game was 16 yards or less.
Of course, if you’re going to bet on Taylor to go over 88.5 rushing yards, it makes sense that his longest rush will be over 16.5 yards. In three of their last four games, the Chargers have allowed at least one rushing play of 27 yards or more. That includes two plays for at least 40 yards. In other words, the Chargers are vulnerable to giving up long runs, and Taylor can take advantage of that.
