Packers vs. Lions Prop Bets: Lions Head to Lambeau Looking for an Upset

  • Micah Parsons is expected to play some snaps in Week 1

  • Packers CB Nate Hobbs and WR Jayden Reed are unlikely to play

  • The Lions allowed the third-most passing yards per game in 2024

There are a ton of fantastic matchups in the first week of the NFL season, but this NFC North rivalry may be the best.

The Detroit Lions will head to Green Bay as a surprising underdog this weekend. The shift in odds is due primarily to the Packers adding Micah Parsons last week. The elite pass rusher has only been with the Packers for a few days, but is expected to play in this crucial Week 1 battle. Will his presence help shift the balance between these two NFC powerhouses?

Below, we will share our favorite three prop bets for this highly anticipated Sunday afternoon game. We’ll explain why we love each wager and share odds taken from Caesars Sportsbook. Jared Goff Over 240.5 Passing Yards (-120) at Caesars Sportsbook

We believe Micah Parsons will terrorize Goff this weekend, but we don’t think he’ll be on the field as much as usual. The pass rusher is still learning his new defense, making it hard to roll him out there for the entire game. Expect him to come out often, allowing Goff to hit some big passes.

We are even more confident about this bet given that Packers’ cornerback Nate Hobbs is questionable and seems unlikely to suit up. He was signed to bolster one of the weakest position groups on the roster, but we still had questions about how well he would perform in the secondary. If he is out, former receiver Bo Melton is listed as the backup. Melton has never started at corner in the NFL, making the position switch over the summer.

David Montgomery Over 42.5 Rush Yards (-120) at Caesars Sportsbook

We mentioned Parsons above, but we didn’t share that the Packers gave up defensive tackle Kenny Clark to do it. The former Pro Bowler was a massive part of the team’s run defense, even in his down years. While Parsons is an enormous upgrade, his struggles against the run mean the Packers could be vulnerable up the middle.

We are going with Montgomery over Gibbs as a result of that defensive change. Parsons is incredibly fast, as is the rest of the front seven. That will help against Gibbs, but it won’t against the powerful Montgomery. Expect him to break out some big runs, easily covering this total.

Matthew Golden Over 49.5 Receiving Yards (-110) at Caesars Sportsbook

On top of the Hobbs injury, it also seems likely the Pack will be without top receiver Jayden Reed. The playmaker is involved in the run and pass game, using his insane speed to make big plays. While he remains listed as questionable on the injury report, the young star has still not been able to return to practice.

The Packers have no shortage of receiving depth, but we see rookie Matthew Golden taking over the lead role. The Texas Longhorns standout came into the NFL with questions about consistency, but he has mostly silenced those during the preseason. His speed can replace Reed’s, but Golden also brings an uncanny ability to make difficult catches.

The Lions allowed the third-most passing yards per game last season, and we don’t think they improved much in the offseason. Expect Green Bay to attack using many different pass catchers, but Golden will lead the Pack when the final whistle is blown on Sunday.
