Even though the Florida Panthers were able to tie up the series, the Edmonton Oilers still outperformed them in regard to Expected Goals. So far in two games, both offenses have had no issue with lighting up the scoreboard. With both goaltenders struggling to stay in front of the puck, expect the Panthers and Oilers front lines to continue to pressure each other's net at a high rate which shades value towards the full game over.
After scoring a combined seven goals in game one of the Stanley Cup Finals, the Edmonton Oilers and Florida Panthers carried over their momentum into game two by combining for another nine. Their result in Expected Goals also solidified their results as game one ended with an Expected Goal of 8.36 while game two concluded with a 9.53. Their high level of play on offense should come as no surprise as both front lines currently rank in the top three in Expected Goals For in All Situations.
Heading into game three, expect both units to continue to thrive as their versatility helps open up higher quality shooting lanes in front of the net which drastically increases the quality of their Shots on Goal. Even with both back lines excelling in coverage, the Panthers and Oilers spread out attack has proven to be too much for them to sustain their high level of play on defense. For some more exposure, escalator bet the full game over by placing smaller wagers on the alternate totals.
Speaking of Expected Goals, the Oilers have been the more well rounded unit as they beat the Panthers 4.65-3.71 in game one and 5.37-4.16 in game two. Even with game three projected to be another high scoring affair, the Oilers possess more than enough talent on offense to help lessen the amount of variance in their contest. Especially with Connor McDavid and Leon Darisaitl still playing at a high level while Zach Hyman is out with an injury as both stars average over 0.40 Expected Goals per game.
Leon Draisaitl has had no issue with exploiting the Panthers gaps in coverage throughout the finals as the Hart Memorial Trophy contender has managed to score three goals in two games while generating an Expected Goal of 0.98 and 0.35. With the Panthers back line unable to shade their coverage towards him with Connor McDavid playing on the opposite side, Draisaitl will continue to have the opportunity to generate high quality Shots on Goal while pressuring their net at a consistent rate.
