The Favorites - Alisson Becker, Jordan Pickford

Alisson Becker is firmly established as Brazil’s first-choice pick between the sticks. The Challengers - Oliver Baumann, Bart Verbruggen

Manuel Neuer has ruled out a return to international soccer for World Cup 2026, so Oliver Baumann will probably be Germany’s last line of defense in the USA, Canada and Mexico. Portugal, who are also potential World Cup challengers, will look to Diogo Costa between the posts. Both Baumann and Costa could emerge as Golden Glove challengers.

The same applies to Bart Verbruggen, who is in pole position to be the Netherlands’ No.1 at the World Cup. Another possible challenger for the Golden Glove is Thibaut Courtois. Widely regarded as one of the best goalkeepers on the planet, there are nevertheless doubts about how far Belgium will go.

The Value - Zion Suzuki, Matt Freese

If you are looking for outsiders on whom it could be worth a small flutter, start with Zion Suzuki. Japan have been tipped as dark horses for World Cup 2026 and a strong set of showings from their goalkeeper could put Suzuki in contention for the Golden Glove. By the same token, do not rule out Sergio Rochet of Uruguay.

Colombia’s goal will be guarded by either Camilo Vargas or Kevin Mier, while fans of the USMNT may fancy a bet on Matt Freese, especially after the co-hosts were handed a relatively kind draw for the group phase.

Golden Glove Favorites Predictions and Analysis

Alisson Becker (Brazil)

Alisson Becker has been a reliable performer for Liverpool for much of the past decade, and he will be Brazil’s safe pair of hands this summer. Carlo Ancelotti has already made improvements since taking charge of the Selecao, and optimism within the country is beginning to build ahead of the big kick-off in June.

Alisson will be playing behind a stellar defensive unit, which means he might not see as much action as other goalkeepers. Even so, he has the combination of quality and experience to shine in North America. Liverpool’s No.1 will be among the favorites for the Golden Glove in what could be his last World Cup for his country.

Mike Maignan (France)

Hugo Lloris was France’s goalkeeper when they won the World Cup in 2018 and finished as runners-up in 2022. He has now departed the scene, to be replaced by Mike Maignan. The 30-year-old plays his club soccer for AC Milan, where he has emerged as a leader over the last few seasons. 

This will be Didier Deschamps’ last tournament in charge of France. The long-serving manager divides opinion for his tendency towards conservative tactics, but for a goalkeeper looking to win the Golden Glove, Deschamps’ caution might actually be a blessing in disguise.

Jordan Pickford (England)

Jordan Pickford does not play for one of the elite Premier League clubs; he has never featured for a single minute in the Champions League. Yet Pickford has been England’s first-choice goalkeeper for almost a decade and that will not change before or during the 2026 World Cup (barring an injury, of course).

With England tipped to go far under Thomas Tuchel, Pickford looks like a strong candidate to win the Golden Glove. He is perhaps not as big a name as some of the other contenders, but the Everton goalkeeper has consistently delivered for England. That counts for a lot.

Emiliano Martinez (Argentina)

No one has ever won the Golden Glove more than once, but Emiliano Martinez has the opportunity to make history this summer. The recipient of the award in 2022, he was integral to Argentina’s success in Qatar and has a big role to play in the USA, Canada and Mexico as well.

Individual errors have not exactly been absent from Martinez’s game at club level this season, but the Aston Villa custodian is a man for the big occasion. He is also a natural leader with a dominant personality which could help him earn formal recognition from the Golden Glove voting panel.

Unai Simon (Spain)

Unai Simon is not a goalkeeper in the class of Iker Casillas, one of his predecessors as Spain’s No.1. But he has the trust of Luis de la Fuente, who looks set to stick with Simon as his go-to shot-stopper despite David Raya’s impressive performances for Arsenal in the 2025/26 campaign.

Spain’s control of the ball means they do not give up many chances. On the one hand that could count against Simon, who will probably not have too much to do in some of his matches. However, Spain should keep a few clean sheets and that would aid their goalkeeper’s bid to win the Golden Glove, following in Casillas’ footsteps from 2010.
