Pirates vs. Cubs - Carmen Mlodzinski vs. Shota Imanaga (2:21 PM EST)

Games always start early at Wrigley Field on Friday, and the wind is blowing in at the stadium. This means Carmen Mlodzinski and Shota Imanaga should have success. 

Mlodzinski steps in with a power arm that can generate quick outs when he’s attacking the strike zone. He has a 1.56 WHIP this season, which isn’t great, but he generates strikeouts at a high rate, which should help his case against Chicago. 

Imanaga has quickly established himself as a reliable option with excellent command and pitch sequencing. He doesn’t rely purely on velocity, but instead keeps hitters off balance with movement and location.

This has led to allowing under one hit per inning this season, and he has the command to shut down Pittsburgh. 

The Pirates' lineup doesn’t typically explode out of the gate, even though they have been solid. The Cubs are similar, so this game should be lower scoring.

He has a 2.89 ERA and a 1.5 WHIP this season through 9.1 innings. 

May, a former Red Sox, has been very poor this season. He is 0-2 with a 15.95 ERA and a 2.73 WHIP this season. 

Both lineups have capable hitters, but these pitchers should slow down the pace early. The Red Sox are the bigges threat to end this bet, but the top of their order has been relatively slow to start games.

Nationals vs. Brewers - Jake Irvin vs. Chad Patrick (7:40 PM EST)

Chad Patrick offers a steady presence on the mound with a focus on command and keeping hitters off balance. He is 1-0 with a 0.96 ERA and a 1.39 WHIP this season. 

Both lineups tend to build offense over time rather than striking immediately, which plays directly into the NRFI strategy.
