  • Bryce Underwood is expected to be the starting quarterback for the Michigan Wolverines

  • Star defensive coordinator Jim Knowles left the Buckeyes for Penn State this season

With plenty of contenders all capable of competing for the Big Ten conference championship this season, the room for error is razor thin as one loss can knock you out of contention. Be prepared for chaos as an upset can take place at any time and drastically alter the conference title game picture.

Big Ten Championship Winner Predictions

Heading into the 2025-2026 season, question marks loom over the reigning NCAAF National Champions as the Ohio State Buckeyes are still frantically searching for answers at the quarterback position. As of writing, neither Julian Sayin or Lincoln Kienholz has been named their starting quarterback with less than two weeks until the start of the regular season. Factor in the potential regression on defense and the Buckeyes may underperform this year.

As for the 2024-2025 Big Ten conference champions, the Oregon Ducks chances of retaining their title fall on the shoulders of Dante Moore who has severely underwhelmed in his stint with the UCLA Bruins. His questionable decision making and lack of arm talent may halt the Ducks explosive offense which hurts their chances of competing with the other conference title contenders. Until Moore elevates his level of play, then pass on the Ducks at their current odds.

Michigan Wolverines (+1000) at FanDuel Sportsbook

After ranking near dead last in Off Pass Success Rate and in PPA last season, the Michigan Wolverines are expected to round back into competitive form with Bryce Underwood taking the reins as their starting quarterback. Underwood will benefit from an easy schedule as the Wolverines dodge Penn State and Oregon while hosting the Buckeyes. Take the Wolverines at their current odds now with intentions to hedge your bet later in the year.

NCAA College Football Big Ten Championship Predictions

How to Bet on Big Ten Championship

Multiple factors play a role in a team’s chances of winning the conference title, including returning production, transfers, recruits, and strength of schedule. Focusing on returning production, chemistry is as important as ever as the college football landscape has drastically changed over the past few years. When continuity is on a team’s side, there is less variance in their contests. Especially early on when teams are still trying to figure out their identity.

As for strength of schedule, an easier schedule drastically increases a team’s chances of playing for the conference title as the only requirement is to possess one of the top two conference records. Look for teams who play their rivals and toughest opponents at home, have byes before those key games take place, and possess an easy non-conference schedule to help work out their early season kinks.

How to Read Big Ten Championship Odds

Before betting on the Big Ten Conference winner market, it’s vital to know how the listed odds work. If you place a $100 wager on Michigan at their early season odds of +900, then you would profit $900 if the Wolverines win the conference title.

If you wait to see if the Wolverines get off to a hot start and are listed with a minus sign in front of their odds (-135 for example), then you would need to wager $135 to profit $100. Be sure to line shop before placing a wager as the odds for the same market can drastically vary between each sportsbook.

Big Ten Championship Winner History

With Oregon winning the Big Ten conference title in 2024, the Michigan Wolverines and Ohio State Buckeyes run has come to an end after the two rivals won the past seven titles in a row. A potential sign of things to come as there is more parity than ever before with Oregon, Washington, UCLA, and USC all joining the conference after the Pac-12 dissolved.
