Travis Hunter played both sides of the ball in the preseason
Hunter caught two passes for nine yards in the preseason
The former Colorado standout was the second pick in the NFL Draft
Travis Hunter was the most intriguing player heading into the 2025 NFL Draft. The Jaguars traded up to get Hunter with the second overall pick, and hope he can become a two-way star for the team.
Hunter is expected to play both offense and defense in the opener, which can make his props tough to bet. However, I have examined the gameplan and found three Hunter props for Week 1 that you should consider for the Jaguars vs. Panthers game.
Caesars Sportsbook is where you can find these props. With a single $1 wager at Caesars, you can double your winnings over your next 20 bets by using our promo code WSN20X at registration.
Earlier in the offseason, Jaguars head coach Liam Coen joined the Rich Eisen Show to talk about how he will handle Hunter’s reps. Hunter was a two-way phenom at Colorado last season, so it was believed he would play both ways in the NFL.
However, very few players have competed on both sides of the ball in the NFL because the game is much more grueling. Hunter will be one of the first to try to play both sides in a long time.
Coen, the former Buccaneers OC in the NFC South, revealed that his goal was to play Hunter on 80% of the offensive snaps and come close to matching this on defense as well. The coach didn’t seem too sure about defense, but it was clear Hunter would make a big impact on offense.
When you look at the Jaguars' roster, they have no choice but to get Hunter snaps on offense. Trevor Lawrence, who was pegged as an NFL MVP candidate earlier in his career, is in a make-or-break season, and he doesn’t have many weapons.
Brian Thomas Jr. was Hunter’s best target last season, hauling in 87 catches for 1,282 yards and 10 touchdowns. Thomas is one of the best young receivers in the league, but the depth chart is very minimal when it comes to receiver talent.
Jacksonville’s other receivers are Dyami Brown, Parker Washington and Tim Patrick. This group can’t lead the Jaguars to wins, so Hunter must be on the offensive side of the ball.
The Panthers attempted to upgrade their defense in the offseason, but they should still struggle on defense. The team allowed 224.5 passing yards per game in 2024, which was in the bottom third of the NFL.
Look for Liam Coen to get Hunter involved early in this game, and limit his defensive reps to open the season. For Jacksonville to win, they must score early, and this is where Hunter enters the mix.

I’m not a fan of the Jaguars' receiver room outside of Thomas and Hunter. Even though Coen has an excellent offensive mind, it will be hard for them to work other receivers into the passing game consistently.
Hunter and Thomas will be the most targeted players on the offense for Lawrence. Hunter’s receptions prop is listed at 4.5 for +110, which has a lot of value.
Hunter was used a lot in Colorado’s quick game passing offense last season. The Buffaloes tried to get him the ball in space, and let him find green grass.
If the Jaguars take this same approach, it should lead to a lot of receptions.

Lawrence has been criticized over the years for his lack of production, but he now has two of the most explosive athletes in the NFL on his side.
Lawrence should be looking to Thomas and Hunter around the goal line, and on deep shots when they cross the 50. Hunter’s athleticism gives him a chance to score every time he touches the ball.
The Panthers' shaky secondary should struggle in Week 1, giving +185 a lot of value.
