Season 2 of the TGL started out the same way Season 1 ended - Atlanta Drive claiming victory via some Billy Horschel heroics.
Horschel’s 17-foot putt last March inspired Atlanta’s Season 1 championship win and last week he nailed the second longest putt in TGL history - a 37-footer for eagle - to give ATL a 6-4 win over New York Golf Club in a rematch of the 2025 Finals.
Atlanta were depleted for the opener due to an injury to Justin Thomas and, with Patrick Cantlay not suiting up, they relied on alternates Chris Gotterup and Corey Conners.
The result was the same though, a ‘W, and Gotterup steps in again to join Horschel and Cantlay in a powerful looking line-up.
The Bay go with the same trio which burst out of the blocks in the inaugural TGL.
Shane Lowry, Ludvig Aberg and Wyndham Clark thrashed New York 9-2 and won each of their opening four matches in Season 1.
They eventually fell to Atlanta in the semi-finals so revenge will be an obvious storyline in the SoFi Center on Tuesday evening.
This is Match 3 of Season 2 following Atlanta’s 6-4 win over New York and Boston Common’s 7-5 victory against Los Angeles GC.
In the outright market, Boston Common leads the way at +275.
It’s then +300 Atlanta Drive, +425 The Bay, +500 Los Angeles, New York, +900 Jupiter Links.

Each match consists of two teams of three playing 15 holes across two sessions on a selection of custom-designed holes
Triples: Holes 1-9 - Each team of three playing in alternate-shot format
Singles: Holes 10-15 - One-vs-one, head-to-head competition for the entire hole. Each player from each team plays a total of two full holes
Modern match play is the scoring system. Each hole is worth 1pt
If the match is tied after 15 holes, Overtime (best-of-three, closest-to-the-pin) kicks in
The Hammer (each team gets three per match) allows teams to increase the points value of a single hole. The flag/towel is thrown down by a team official to signal its use and can be accepted or declined
Shane Lowry
Lowry likes making a mark. He won an Open on home Irish soil, secured Ryder Cup glory for Europe in September and also hit the very first shot in TGL history. His drive found the fairway and led to a birdie. He took part in five of the six matches in Season 1 and has the energy and personality to thrive in this format.
Ludvig Aberg
A less outgoing character than Lowry, the cool Swede still made an impact in the four matches he played in Season 1. Notably, he ranked 1st for Greens In Regulation, hitting every single surface in the right number. He was also solid on short putts, going 5-for-5 inside 10 feet.
Wyndham Clark
Clark missed just one of The Bay’s six matches last season, the semi-final loss to Atlanta. Who knows, perhaps his absence was crucial. In Season 1, he registered the longest drive (360.3 yards) and ranked T4 for Greens In Regulation. He’s worked hard in the off-season so will hope that effort is rewarded here.

Billy Horschel
With Thomas absent, Horschel has taken on the mantle of Atlanta’s spiritual leader even more so, making the difference in their opening win over New York. His Singles record in this event is superb. He’s won more points than anyone, banking eight in the Regular season last year, five in Postseason and two already in Season 2.
Chris Gotterup
Gotterup’s introduction to TGL produced drama from the start as he broke his driver while warming up. No matter, last summer’s Scottish Open winner pumped Corey Conners’ spare big stick into the fairway. One singles win out of two and some impressive iron play made it a decent start for the stand-in, who last month finished joint-runner-up in the Grant Thornton Invitational.
Patrick Cantlay
There was justified speculation that the introverted Cantlay might not be a great fit for TGL but he acted as a great counter-balance to Horschel and Thomas in Season 1, his cool approach and strategic use of the hammer playing a big part in Atlanta lifting the silverware. He played in seven of their eight matches and will be keen to get going here after sitting out the opener.

With Atlanta winning seven of its eight matches in Season 1 and kicking off with a win in Season 2, there has to be a genuinely good reason to oppose them.
We tried that in the opening match against New York due to the absence of Justin Thomas but, again, ATL found a way.
So are they just worth betting blind at -138 given that stellar record in the SoFi Center?
Perhaps obvious is best so we’ll say yes.
Atlanta continues to be the best in the league when using the Hammer and four of ATL’s six points in Match 1 came when it was thrown.
That was without Cantlay, statistically the best user of the Hammer in TGL, so his return only adds confidence that they’ll use it even more shrewdly here.
The Bay will be strong opponents and were the only team to beat Atlanta in Season 1.
That came in the Regular Season and they’ll fancy their chances again.
But it’s hard to look past Atlanta’s 7-for-8 record, especially with Horschel looking fit and refreshed after an injury layoff.
Back Atlanta at -138 to chalk up another win.
