The Bay Golf Club vs. Los Angeles Golf Club 2026 02 09

The Bay Golf Club vs. Los Angeles Golf Club Intro

The Bay was one of the hottest teams in Season 1 of TGL, winning four of its five matches in the regular season before suffering a semi-final loss to eventual winners Atlanta Drive.

With a revolving cast of Ludvig Aberg, Wyndham Clark, Shane Lowry and Min Woo Lee, it was clearly a powerhouse.

But things are looking very different in Season 2.

The Bay has lost its opening two matches and for this one they field a pair of alternates: Luke Clanton and Neal Shipley.

Rivals Los Angeles Golf Club sit fifth out of six after one win and one loss but can vault into third spot with victory in the SoFi Center on Monday night.

To help LA in its bid, World No.4 Tommy Fleetwood makes his first TGL start of 2026, joining a rejuvenated Sahith Theegala and alternate Tony Finau.

Ahead of Match 8 of Season 2, the outright market shows Boston Common as +240 favorites to lift the trophy.

It’s then +333 New York Golf Club, +350 Atlanta Drive, Los Angeles Golf Club, +800 Jupiter Links GCC, +1400 The Bay Golf Club.

  • Triples: Holes 1-9 - Each team of three playing in alternate-shot format

  • Singles: Holes 10-15 - One-vs-one, head-to-head competition for the entire hole. Each player from each team plays a total of two full holes

Player Form Guide

The Bay Golf Club

Luke Clanton

This is Clanton’s debut in TGL so at least we can say he has no scar tissue from The Bay’s opening two losses. A former No.1 in the World Amateur rankings, Clanton had an excellent 2024, twice finishing runner-up on the PGA TOUR, but hasn’t found it as easy since turning pro in June 2025. That’s continued into 2026 where he’s started the season MC-WD-MC so he’ll hope a change of format may lead to a change of fortunes.

Neal Shipley

The Bay’s second first-timer will also hope to make an immediate impact. Shipley finished as Low Amateur in both the 2024 Masters (53rd) and US Open (26th) and later turned pro. A two-time winner on the Korn Ferry Tour last year, Shipley missed his first three cuts on the PGA TOUR this season but did play all rounds in Phoenix last week, a closing 70 leaving him 68th.

Min Woo Lee

The one player from The Bay’s line-up who does boast TGL experience although his Singles record so far shows just one win in 10 attempts (1-4-5). Lee holds several driving distance records in TGL but there are no points for that. On the PGA TOUR, he opened with a 62 at The American Express before finishing 38th while he posted 28th in Phoenix.

Los Angeles Golf Club

Tony Finau

Finau has had a strange season so far on the PGA TOUR. He’s missed three of four cuts but posted 11th at Torrey Pines to remind us what he can do. In TGL, he’s filling in as an alternate this week, a role he performed in Season 1. Finau suited up just once and won one and lost one in his two Singles against Cam Young. A Finau eagle in their second match helped LA to an Overtime win against New York Golf Club.

Tommy Fleetwood

Last year’s FedExCup champion was a real hit in Season 1 of TGL. He played in four of LA’s six matches, helping them finish No.1 in the regular season standings. The Englishman has a 3-1-4 Singles record and was undefeated in the regular season. He’s yet to play on the PGA TOUR this season, his only 2026 starts a couple of rather underwhelming finishes on the DP World Tour (25th and 41st).

Sahith Theegala

After an injury-hit and hugely disappointing 2025, Theegala has bounced back to form big time in 2026. He recorded back-to-back top 10s at The American Express and Farmers Insurance Open and added a top 20 in Phoenix. He loves this format and lost just one of his 10 Singles matches in Season 1 (6-1-3). He’s also shown some spark in Season 2, chipping in for eagle against Boston Common.

LA Looks Too Strong

We noted ahead of Game 7 that the favorite had been winning time after time in Season 2.

Backing champions Atlanta Drive to beat Jupiter Links - the worst team in TGL - was a no-brainer but, wouldn’t you know it, Jupiter produced a shock 8-6 victory.

It happens. However, let’s not get spooked by one result.

Given the line-ups involved, backing the favorite Los Angeles at -125 has to be the play.

Okay, The Bay’s new boys, Luke Clanton and Neal Shipley, may instantly click on their first TGL starts but their form on the PGA TOUR in 2026 doesn’t fuel such confidence.

Min Woo Lee can’t do it on his own so LA’s line-up of Tommy Fleetwood, Sahith Theegala and Tony Finau should prove too strong.

This one doesn’t need overthinking. Back Los Angeles at -125 for the win.
