Broncos vs. Bengals Prediction: Can Broncos Close Out Injury-Plagued Bengals on Monday?

Updated: September 29, 2025, 04:19 AM ET
7 min read
  • The Broncos have lost back-to-back games on last-second field goals.

  • In their first game without the injured Joe Burrow, the Bengals lost 48-10 to the Vikings.

  • The Bengals have the fewest rushing yards in the NFL through three weeks.

Week 4 of the NFL season gives us a doubleheader on Monday, with the late game featuring the Denver Broncos hosting the Cincinnati Bengals. This game is a rematch of an overtime thriller from last December that the Bengals won. Heading into Monday, the Broncos are hoping to erase the bad taste of two painfully close losses in the past two weeks. Meanwhile, the Bengals are at an early crossroads in their season. After a 48-10 loss last week following the injury to Joe Burrow, Cincinnati’s season could be in a state of peril without something positive from Jake Browning.

The injury to Burrow is not only bad news for the Bengals, but it also makes the race for the most passing yards in the NFL this season wide open. Naturally, Cincinnati’s Super Bowl odds tanked after Burrow was lost until at least December. However, the Broncos can still consider themselves a contender despite their 1-2 start.

Broncos vs Bengals: My Pick

This spread feels a little bit like a trap. After the Broncos struggled to close out the Titans in Week 1 and then lost back-to-back games on late field goals, how are they going to cover more than a touchdown? However, I’m going to take the bait because there are silver linings with the Broncos. Both of their losses came on the road against teams that have started 3-0. They aren’t far from being 3-0 with two impressive road wins. Denver is a good team, albeit a disappointed and desperate one, so I’m going to back them at home.

Plus, the Bengals are a deeply flawed side. Burrow was the one thing that was holding them together and giving them a chance. Things got ugly without him in last week’s 48-10 loss. While it’s reasonable to expect some improvement with another week of practice with Browning as the starter, a Monday night game on the road isn’t a good situation for Cincinnati right now. It may not be another 38-point blowout loss, but there are plenty of reasons to believe the Bengals will struggle to keep this game close, so I foresee a double-digit Denver win.

Broncos vs. Bengals Prediction

Denver Broncos Preview

In many ways, it’s hard to make sense of Denver’s season. If not for a controversial penalty in Week 2, the Broncos would at least be 2-1. They also led the Chargers by a touchdown in the fourth quarter last week, but failed to seal the deal. Even at 1-2, it’s not hard to envision them getting to the playoffs and being a tough out in the postseason. They just have to stop hurting themselves with penalties, take care of the football, and close out games in the fourth quarter.

All of those flaws are fixable, especially with a veteran coach like Sean Payton. Playing at home figures to help, especially for a defense that has the potential to be among the best in the league. The Denver running game has been productive early in the season, which is a good omen. With a steady rushing attack, big plays in the passing game should be available for the Broncos. Bo Nix just has to make good throws and take care of the football.

Cincinnati Bengals Preview

If only the injury to Burrow wasn’t Cincinnati’s only glaring problem right now. Not only are the Bengals relying on Browning, who has just eight career starts, but they also have the fewest rushing yards in the NFL after three weeks. Chase Brown is averaging just two yards per carry. Even in the team’s two wins to open the season, Brown gained a total of 90 yards on 37 carries. That would be a huge problem with Burrow, but it’s a potential disaster without him.

The Cincinnati defense isn’t exactly picking up the slack. While the Bengals kept Joe Flacco and the Browns contained in Week 1, they’ve allowed 75 total points over the last two weeks. In fairness, the Vikings had two defensive scores in last week’s blowout over the Bengals. But the Cincinnati defense still gave up 5.5 yards per carry on the ground. That’s a bad sign against Denver’s rushing attack. With Browning at quarterback, no rushing attack, and a lackluster defense, it’s hard to find reasons to think the Bengals can stay competitive on Monday night.
