Best Broncos vs. Chargers Prop Bets: Denver Is One Win Away from Clinching Home-Field Advantage

  • Bo Nix had just 182 passing yards last week after back-to-back games with 300+ passing yards.

  • The Chargers allow just 6.6 yards per pass, yielding the fifth-fewest total passing yards in the NFL this season.

  • Courtland Sutton has had at least five catches in four of his last five games and received at least 10 targets in four straight games.

Among the meaningful games on the Week 18 NFL schedule is an AFC West rivalry game between the Denver Broncos and the Los Angeles Chargers. Heading into the final week of the season, the Broncos need a win or a loss by the Patriots to secure the top seed in the AFC, which comes with a first-round bye and home-field advantage throughout the playoffs. As for the Chargers, they are locked into one of the Wild Card spots in the AFC, so this game doesn’t matter much for them, although they would surely love to sweep the Broncos for the second season in a row.

Having already clinched the AFC West title, the Broncos are surely among the top contenders for Super Bowl LX. Sean Payton could also be considered a sleeper for NFL Coach of the Year honors if the Broncos are the top seed in the AFC. But don’t overlook the Chargers too much. They also have a legitimate chance to win the AFC championship

Bo Nix Under 218.5 Passing Yards (-110) at bet365 Sportsbook

Nix has had some big games this year, but his passing numbers have been somewhat erratic. For instance, after back-to-back games with over 300 passing yards, he had just 182 passing yards last week. It wasn’t necessarily a poor performance, but Nix is far from a lock to put up big numbers.

In Denver’s first game against the Chargers this season, Nix managed just 153 passing yards. He’s likely to have a difficult matchup again in Week 18, as the Chargers have allowed the fifth-fewest passing yards in the league. The Los Angeles defense yields just 6.6 yards per pass, so it’ll be hard for Nix to complete passes down the field and have a big total.

RJ Harvey Longest Rush Under 12.5 Yards (-110) at bet365 Sportsbook

Since JK Dobbins got hurt, there’s been no question that Harvey is Denver’s feature running back. But his productivity has still been limited at times, and that includes his ability to break loose for big runs. He only has four games this season with a run of over 12.5 yards. While two of those games have come in the last four weeks to accompany an increase in carries, Harvey still isn’t a huge big-play threat.

At the same time, the Los Angeles defense doesn’t give up a lot of big plays. The Chargers have only allowed six rushing plays of 20 yards or more this season. Obviously, Harvey only needs to gain 13 yards on a carry to hit this bet. But that number is a testament to how tough the Chargers have been to run against, making it hard to believe Harvey will get loose against them and create a long running play.

Courtland Sutton Over 4.5 Receptions (-130) at bet365 Sportsbook

Sutton has been plagued by drops in recent weeks. It’s a big reason why he was held to just four catches last week. There were one or two passes in his direction that should have been caught but weren’t. If Sutton had just one more catch last week, it would have given him five consecutive games with at least five catches, which is enough of a reason to back him for this bet against the Chargers.

Sutton’s dropped passes aside, he and Nix seem to be on the same page late in the season. He’s had four straight games with at least 10 targets. If that trend continues, it’s hard to believe he won’t catch at least five passes. Keep in mind, Sutton had six catches for 118 yards against the Chargers earlier this season, so he’s poised for a big game in Week 18 in the rematch.
