Pickens had seven catches for 130 yards and a touchdown last week against the Chargers
The Commanders have allowed the sixth-most passing yards and the third-most passing touchdowns in the NFL this season
Pickens has amassed over 80 receiving yards in seven of 15 games this season
After a couple of down weeks, George Pickens got back to being one of the best wide receivers in football last week. Even in a losing effort against the Chargers, Pickens racked up 130 yards and a touchdown on seven catches. It was the type of performance that has made him the top receiver on a dynamic Dallas offense. Pickens will be hoping to replicate that performance on Christmas Day when the Cowboys face the Washington Commanders.
With two weeks left in the season, Pickens ranks third in receiving yards, although it’ll be hard to beat Jaxon Smith-Njigba for the most receiving yards this season. Pickens is also a long shot for Offensive Player of the Year honors, with Smith-Njigba leading the way in that category as well. To make matters worse, the Cowboys are out of the playoff picture, so there is nothing at stake for either team in this game.
That being said, an explosive player like Pickens is a great target for prop bets, especially against a lackluster Washington defense that’s giving up nearly 27 points per game. That’s why we decided to make Pickens the focus of three prop bets in Week 17.

Pickens snapped a three-game scoreless drought by getting into the end zone last week. With nine touchdowns in 15 games, getting plus odds for Pickens to score a touchdown is good value. Keep in mind that Dak Prescott has the third-most passing touchdowns in the league. He frequently throws multiple touchdown passes, increasing the chance that Pickens will have one.
Equally important, the Commanders have allowed the third-most passing touchdowns in the NFL this season. They have an atrocious secondary that also has to worry about CeeDee Lamb. All season, that has created opportunities for Pickens, which is why he’s an excellent touchdown bet in Week 17.

After racking up 130 receiving yards last week, it’s hard to bet against Pickens. Despite a minislump in early December, Pickens has amassed over 80 receiving yards in six of his last 10 games. In two of the games that Pickens failed to reach that mark, he had over 75 yards and came close to getting over 80.5 yards. Thus, it’s rare when Pickens doesn’t at least have a fighting chance to hit this mark.
Equally important, the Commanders have one of the worst pass defenses in the NFL. They’ve allowed the sixth-most passing yards in the league and concede the most yards per pass. With the season Prescott is having, he could easily throw for 300+ yards against Washington, creating plenty of opportunities for both Pickens and CeeDee Lamb to amass over 80 yards.

Pickens is more than capable of being on the receiving end of a big play. The mark of 26.5 yards is also a surprisingly low bar for him. Again, he had two subpar games earlier this month, but Pickens has a catch of at least 27 yards in nine of his 15 games this season, so there is a better than 50% chance he does so again this week.
Those chances increase even further against the Washington defense. As mentioned, the Commanders give up the most yards per pass in the league, in part because they’ve allowed the second-most pass plays of 40 yards or more. With the Commanders being vulnerable to big plays, it’s a good idea to back Pickens to have at least one downfield grab this week.
