July was another banner month for Atlantic City, with beachgoers apparently arriving in throngs.  The nine casinos along the boardwalk took in $284 million in the month, which was a 4.3% increase over the 2024 number, and more importantly, from a morale standpoint, beat the $247 million brought in by the online casinos, which had roundly thrashed them in the Winter and Spring revenue-wise.

Land-based slot revenue was up a meagre 2.7%, while table games saw an almost 10% jump, but as is so often the case, there were winners and losers. Slots fell into a very narrow range with no properties more than 10% ahead or behind in win, but in tables which often have much higher volatility, there were much larger swings.

NJ Gambling Revenue Tops $600M with Strong July Gains

Bally’s saw win up to $2.2 million in July, an increase of over 72% YOY. Ocean’s Casino saw their win up more than $4.3 million for a 65% increase, and Borgata beat last year’s number by almost 4 million for a 14% jump. Caesar, on the other hand, found itself 1.6 million light compared to last July, a decline 32%, and the Golden Nugget also struggled with a million less in win, an almost 29% falloff.

In the closely watched online casino category, brick and mortar may have come out on top in total win in a busy summer month, but it was no contest on a percentage basis, with internet gaming revenue up 26.6% year over year.

FanDuel Casino once again took home the top spot, with an impressive 52 million haul, and an even more impressive 38% climb up from this time last year. DraftKings Casino held onto its perennial number two spot with $48 million, up a respectable 17%. And rounding out the top 3 was BetMGM Casino with $31 million and a 24.3% jump.

Other notable increases were BetFanatics, which once again had an outstanding month-over-month metric up a whopping 407% with $12 million in win. Caesars Palace was up 53%, BetRivers was up 40% and Hard Rock Bet was up nearly 30% as well.

Interestingly, the online sports wagering showed a slight contraction of 3% to just over $75 million from $77 million last July. This was caused by significant drops by FanDuel Sportsbook, which fell from $32 million to 27 million (-16%) and DraftKings Sportsbook $26 million to $21 million (-19%).

As big a story as that kind of fall off is, it probably still didn't match the chatter around BetFanatics, who repeated their online casino success in the online sports wagering business as well, not only up 200%, but taking the third place spot from BetMGM by almost $1.6 million, $8 million to $6.4 million. Handle was $630 million in online bets, and hold was a respectable 9.4%.

All of this added up to a $606 million dollar month, and a total increase across all gambling types to a  10% surge. This was only the second time this year that New Jersey made it over the $600 million dollar mark.  Still, this was the best monthly showing for brick and mortar this year, as was the iGaming win, so still some signs of life in the Garden state.

The July numbers highlight how dynamic the New Jersey market remains. Atlantic City Boardwalk casino proved they can still pack a punch when the weather is warm, while iGaming operators still continue to post eye-popping percentage growth even as the sector, now over a dozen years old, continues to mature. Sports betting, meanwhile, reminds everyone just how volatile that entire vertical can be month to month.

Taken together, it would be hard to paint the market as stagnant. Land-based casinos continue to find summer momentum, online casinos over a decade continue to grow like mushrooms after a summer rain, and the sportsbooks shuffle their leaderboards in new and interesting ways.  With Fall fast approaching, the second half of 2025 is shaping up to be as unpredictable but just as fascinating as the front half.
