Isaac Cruz brings a 28-3-1 professional record into this bout
Lamont ‘The Reaper’ Roach has won 25 of 28 previous bouts
The WBC world super lightweight title is on the line here
Welcome to December, and a month that’s jam-packed with delights for followers of professional boxing. We have a hectic few weeks ahead, featuring some of the sport’s most famous names meeting to decide important titles. We begin in Texas and a mouth-watering show at the Frost Bank Centre, in San Antonio, a night you can follow live on Amazon Prime.
Tom Brown for TGB Promotions and Sampson Lewkowicz of Sampson Boxing present a star-studded card. A 12-fight programme features the likes of Stephen Fulton and Erislandy Lara, with no fewer than four world championship belts contested on the night. On this page, we focus on the main event, which pairs Isaac Cruz and Lamont Roach at super lightweight.

The odds displayed in the table above indicate that traders at the online bookmaker bet365 expect Lamont Roach to prevail. He’s a strong favourite in the fight-winner market, but a competitive contest is guaranteed. Will you follow the market and place your trust in Roach or aim for a handsome payout by taking a chance on the underdog?
The fight-winner market is the easiest and most popular way to gamble on big-time professional boxing. Simply choose the fighter you expect to win, and click their odds to add to your betslip. You must then input a stake, check, and confirm. Your wager is now live. If your preferred boxer performs as expected and wins, your bet wins, and you profit.
Picking the winner isn’t the only way to gamble on this weekend’s bout. You can also play one of the many specials available at major sportsbooks. There’s winning round, the fight to go the distance, total number of knockdowns, round group betting, and much more. Study the stats, find a bet that matches the results, and wager at a bookmaker offering a nice price.
One of my favourite markets from the specials is the method of victory. When taking this approach, you must predict who will win and how they’ll achieve the result, either on points or by KO/TKO. You need both parts of the bet to land, but the odds are often much better than what is available when focusing on naming the winner. Fancy Cruz for another KO?
Cruz vs. Roach Betting Example
$50 on Cruz to win (+180) at bet365
With the above approach, you’re risking a $50 stake on Cruz to beat Roach at odds of +180. If Cruz wins, either on points or by stoppage, you’ll secure a $140 return. That’s a $90 profit, and your $50 stake back. But if Roach wins or the contest ends in a draw, your bet loses, and the bookmaker keeps your stake.
Remember when betting on sports, only risk what you can afford to lose.

Let’s now look at the most relevant form and figures of both men. Isaac Cruze brings a professional boxing record of 28 wins against three defeats and one draw. He has already stopped 18 of his victims inside the distance, suffering all three losses on the scorecards. The Mexican is known as the ‘Pitbull’ and brings an impressive 64% knockout average.
We last saw 27-year-old Cruz in action back in the summer when scoring a comfortable ten-round points decision win over Omar Salcido Games in Las Vegas. The scorecards at the end of the contest declared Cruz as the winner by margins of 12, 10, and 10 rounds. Those cards reflected the one-sided nature of the bout and Isaac’s dominance that night.
As Cruz is the underdog in what appears to be a 50/50 bout, the Mexican is sure to appear on a fair share of bet slips this weekend. His odds are good enough to back Isaac as a single or add him to your weekend multiples, including parlays. He’s unbeaten in two fights, a run stretching back to a split decision loss to Jose Valenzuela in August 2024.

Lamont Roach is an American-born fighter currently boxing out of Maryland. The 30-year-old brings a 25-1-2 record, winning 10 times inside the distance for a 40% knockout average. His card shows Lamont has lost only once to Jamel Herring in Fresno on points late in 2019. Since then, he’s avoided defeat in seven bouts, scoring three stoppage wins in that time.
Despite his impressive form, Roach didn’t win last time. He fought out a thrilling draw with Gervonta ‘Tank’ Davis over 12 rounds at the Barclays Centre in Brooklyn. The scorecards at the end of that fight read 114-114, 113-115, and 114-114. Tank did get the nod by two rounds on one card, but with the other two unable to separate the pair, a draw was a fair result.
Roach may have drawn with Tank in March of this year, but he’s the favourite to make a quick-fire return to winning ways. You can back Lamont to win the bout or aim higher in the method of victory. Looking at his recent form, Roach has gone the distance in four of his last five. That means you can back him to score a points win over Cruz with confidence.
Saturday promises to be a thrilling contest, but I’m backing Roach to deliver the goods and win on points at a useful 1.8 with bet365.
